Al Davis, owner of the Oakland Raiders was one of the greatest figures in professional football. He took players nobody else wanted, like Jim Plunkett, Daryle Lamonica, and many others and built Super Bowl Champions. Three of Al Davis' former Raiders have prestigious collegiate awards named after them, the Fred Biletnikoff Award for best receiver, The Ray Guy Award for best punter, and the Ted Hendricks Award for best defensive end. Davis served as coach, Managing General Partner, and Owner of the Raiders, building them into one of the great dynasties in professional football for the 1960's, 70's and 80's. Davis was Commissioner of the AFL and instrumental in the merge of the AFC and NFC into the modern National Football League. |
