| Probably the greatest ballerina of the 1990's, Darcey Bussell's Odette is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. When I saw her "Swan Lake" with The Royal Ballet in 1996, she never stopped moving. Even in the passages where she stands still, she shimmered to the music. It was barely perceptibile and one of the most breathtaking displays of body control ever. This painting is Darcey as Aurora in "The Sleeping Beauty." I've seen the ballerina only three times, each from the first ten rows. All dancers make a thud when they land; Darcey doesn't. It's like she's weightless. This was the first of my paintings of dancers. Please visit my Dance Gallery. These are my "Sleeping Beauty" and "Pavanne " reviews of her. |
