This is a live volcanic area at Lassen National Park. There’s a boiling mud pot, boiling steam, and white/gold rock that’s very soft in places. I hiked three hours to get to it, and it took me about three hours to paint it, with very little re-touching in my studio. Part of this landscape reappears in my picture of “Siegfried Slaying the Dragon Fafner” from my series of pictures on Wagner’s “Ring.”
