This painting was modeled roughly after the last scene iof Tchaikovsky's opera Maid of Orleans, with Jeanne d'Arc being burned at the stake and angels swooping down to bring her to heaven. The execution was in the square in Rouen, and I painted it in front of the Rouen Cathedral in a shout out to Claude Monet. The Cathedral is his "Rouen Cathedral at Sunset" from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
