Irises are some of my favorite flowers, and I've done a number of them on solid backgrounds. In these pictures I try to achieve the simplicity of the Japanese woodblock prints of the last century, that were such a great influence on the Post-Impressionists, especially. These pictures are great exercises in studying the effects of contrasting colors.
