"Park Scene" (After Monticelli)

Vincent van Gogh called Adolphe Monticelli the greatest colorist who ever lived, next to Delacroix. Vincent regarded his work as a continuation of Monticelli. He and Theo owned several of Monticelli's paintings. He painted with thick impastos with bits of strong color, burried in the paint. I love his color, and also his style of simplification of the human figure. The detail is rough and simple. It has a sufficient amount of detail, so that the people look like people and interact with each other. His style lends itself to small figure paintings. I learn to eliminate unnecessary detail, while still retaining the basic elements that make the people, people.
