"Paul Berenson Show"
Saturday April 4, 2009
Das Williams announces his bid for the Assembly.
We talk mostly about that in the first hour.
Scott Silverman, Executive Director and Founder of Second Chance, a human services agency that is committed to breaking the cycle of unemployment, poverty, and homelessness by offering job readiness training, employment placement assistance, mental health counseling, case management, and affordable housing referrals to people who desire to change their lives. Over the past 15 years Second Chance has assisted more than 24,000 economically disadvantaged and homeless persons in San Diego gain employment and leave poverty, gang affiliations, and crime. Scott joins us for the second hour to talk about Prison Vs. Education, who exactly wants to keep the prices high for the cost of recidivism?
Obama takes Europe by storm at the G-20 meetings in London. Among other things we talk a lot about Afghanistan and his reach-out to Russia. They talk about reductions in nuclear weapons and Medvedev offers their territory for an Afghan supply route.

Saturday March 28, 2009
Obama is out agressively selling his budget proposal and is becoming one of the most telegenic Presidents, on a level with Ronald Reagan and JFK. We'll talk about this, his op-ed piece, and the budget itself. We'll also talk about the military budget and why it NEEDS to be included in any discussion of budget cuts.
Estelle Foster Executive Director, Pesticide Awareness and Alternative Coalition, PAAC joins us at the bottom of the second hour to talk about organic gardening and HR875, an attempt by Monsanto to control our food and seed supplies. We'll talk about Michelle Obama's South Lawn Garden, Lawns to Gardens, and honey bees. We'll also touch on GMO's and pork sprouts.

AIG gives $165 million in
bonuses to the executives who made the company fail, payed $79.1 BILLION
to Wall Street companies tied to high government officials, and have gotten
$170 BILLION total in taxpayer dollars because they are too big to fail.
California has a $42 BILLION defecit, so why is AIG too big to fail but
the State of California is not? The President visits California and fills
out his NCAA bracket. Just because his brother-in-law coaches Oregon State,
that means Obama is an expert on Pac 10 hoops?
Locally, Pacific Capital Bancorp, parent
company of Santa Barbara Bank & Trust, said Wednesday it would cut
its workforce by 300 employees this year, or about 22 percent of its full-time
staff. Eighty of the jobs will be eliminated this month, with the remainder
gone by July 1. We'll also weigh in on the Carpinteria H.S. mascot.
Political Satirist Comedian Bill Maher
performs his stand-up routine at the Arlington Theatre at 8pm Saturday
and joins us at the top of the second hour. We'll talk a lot about comparative
religion and some of the absurdities of most of them that make up his
movie Religulous. We'll also talk about the legalization and taxation
or marijuana and his very common sense approach to healthcare. Iraq and
Afghanistan are both very current issues and we go there, along with AIG,
Fed Chairman "Helicopter" Ben Bernanke, and the first month
and a half of the Obama Administration
Bree Walker joins us from the big
Peace demonstration in San Diego. We talk about that, Camp Casey, and
organic gardening.

Cheap labor, even more than
race, is the thread that connects all of Southern history. It's at the
epicenter of a sad class divide between a desperate, poorly educated workforce
and a demagogic oligarchy, and it has been a demarcation line stronger
than the Mason-Dixon in separating the region from the rest of the nation.
California is catching up, though, thanks to Ahhnuld and Sacramento Repugnicans.
More than 26,000 teachers, including 190 in Santa Barbara are getting
pink slips in their attempts to gut our entire society in the name of
tax cuts for the rich. We'll also talk about the Cheney's "executive
assassination ring" and and Bernie Madoff's guilty plea scam.
Actress Mary Apick joins us at the
bottom of the second hour to talk about her play Beneath the Veil, that
chronicles a group of very different women bound together by the traditional
Muslim headpiece. Societal pressures are a key aspect of the play, and
we'll see into the personal, political, and and cultural anxieties of
being a woman in the Middle East.
Heart Disease and it's twin cousins high
cholesterol and obesity are at the forefront of a global epidemic in health
which is killing more people than all forms of Cancer, Accidents, and
Alzheimer COMBINED. The sad fact of the matter is that it's 80% preventable.
Health and Fitness Adviser and long time SB athlete Victor Neumann
joins us for the third hour to talk about simple things even people
like me can do to be heart healthy.

Saturday March 7, 2009
The city's budget deficit
has grown from an estimated $4.5 million to $6.7 million and SB City
Councilman Das Williams joins us in the first hour to talk about this,
gang violence, and height limits among other city business. Das is also
considering a run for the Assembly seat held by our current termed out
member, so we'll definitely talk about that.
The Code Pink group led by Colonel Ann
Wright is back in Egypt to try crossing into Gaza again this Saturday
and we'll get an update on whether or not they got in and what they are
doing. Jordan Elgrably of the Levantine Cultural Center joins us
in the second hour to talk about this and historical aspects of the Israel/Palestine
issues. We'll talk about Hamas, their founding and social programs that
have contributed to their popularity in Gaza. We'll also get their take
on the new Israeli government and Obama's appointment of a vocal critic
of Israel to a key intelligence post. The
Independent's Sacramento correspondent Jerry Roberts joins us for
the third hour to talk about the state budget, the 2/3 rule to pass a
budget or raise taxes, and calls for a Constitutional Convention. Our
new alleged Senator Taliban Tony Strickland got a promotion as the lunatic
fringe of the Republicans staged their midnight coup of Leader Dave Cogdill
for negotiating with Dems on the budget. The state supreme court heard
arguments today to try to overturn Prop 8, the SF Chronicle is closing
down, and I think the subject of the SB News Press might come up. Plenty
to talk about with Jerry.

Saturday February 28,

Nick Beeson joins us
for the first hour. Great address to Congress by President Obama and thanks
for a bit of honesty and transparency by putting the Iraq War in the budget.
I think that's where we find the money for health care and much more.
Barney Frank, in The Nation, talks about how to cut the basic military
budget, not including the wars, by about 25%. The Repugnicans hated the
address and some of their governors say they won't take the stimulus money.
Here's an idea, if a state's two Senators voted against the package, don't
give those states money. Maybe that will get the R's to support America
again, instead of terying to make it fail. A Conservative friend sent
me a Wall Street Journal op-ed about "How California Became France"
and we will rebut it point by point. I just love how people who know nothing
about California's budgeting system become experts on our politics and
ways of doing business simply because they write for Rupert Murdoch. Oh,
China weighs in on the US in Afghanistan, sort of.
Ellen Brown's new book is Web
of Debt, and joins us in the second hour to talk about the banking
system, our money system, and how we can break free. We'll see how our
national currency has been privatized, secretly taken over by a private
money cartel and the predatory practices of the Wizards of Wall Street.
The Vegas school of bankers have manipulated the marketplace to serve
the narrow interests of a few, to the detriment of the vast majority.
We will talk about Nationalization.
PDA's Brad Parker joins us at the
top of the third hour and we end up in a spirited and informative segment
on illegal immigration when Michael calls the show.

Saturday February 21, 2009
Generals Petraeus and Odierno
submitted Iraq withdrawl plan to President Obama saying the 16-month plan
would pose significantly greater risk to "security gains" than
the 23-month plan they support. They are contradicted by the US commander
for the eight southern provinces of Iraq. Major General Michael Oates
says security gains in the region are "permanent", and even
if violence does break out, Iraqi forces "are well prepared to handle
that". Obama authorized 17,000 more troops for Afghanistan this week,
but other NATO countries are reluctant to commit more. Kyrgyzstan's parliament
voted 78-1 to close the US air base there which is the last US base in
Central Asia and vital for Washington's military operations in Afghanistan.
The 6th Annual Brasilian Carnaval
is this weekend and Hanna Jacobsen joins us in the second hour
to talk about her experiences in Brasil and how she became interested
in the culture. Hanna is a samba dancer and classically trained ballerina,
so we will even get to talk about ballet, along with samba, music, and
more. We'll also talk with the Bren Center Master's student who wants
to return to Brasil to work on water issues, and we WILL get her started
about privatization or water supplies.
California finally passed a budget and
Hannah-Beth Jackson joins us for the third hour to break down the
damage. Her Senate opponent, Taliban Tony Strickland was one of the Republicans
who prefered to see our state crumble rather than raise any taxes. We'll
look at the tax increases, program cuts, borrowing the 2/3 rule to pass
a budget, and what it means for the future of California. This slash and
burn style of obstructionism seems to be the only things Republicans on
both the state and national level have left as they vote as a block and
have absolutely no ideas except block any Democratic program and hope
the state and Federal governments fail so they can win in 2010.

Senate Majority "Leader"
Harry Reid said this week that "legislation is the art of compromise"
as he let three Republican Senators gut the school construction, and other
critical parts of the President's stimulus package. If he's going to let
the Republicans control the agenda against the VOTE of the people, then
it's time to replace him or do the nuclear option with 51 votes to end
the filibuster rule. I'm calling Senators Boxer and Feinstein almost on
a daily basis to "suggest." this. We'll also look at the package
aside from the politics of passing it. Afghanistan is going downhill with
explosions and chos in Kabul...oh, and those supply routes we want to
open. It also looks like Sacramento is ready to pass a budget. A new Gallup/USA
Today poll says that 62% of Americans want either a criminal investigation
or independent panel to investigate the crimes of the Bush Administration.
Baseball player Miguel Tejada this week was charged with and pleaded guilty
to lying to Congress about not knowing anything about steroids. I guess
only high government officials can lie to Congress. We may also talk about
the 3rd District Supervisor election.
Col. Ann Wright is just back from Gaza
with Code Pink and we'll get a first hand report of the humanitarian
disaster there. They're returning for International Women's Day, March
8 and if you want to go we'll find out how. We'll get her take on the
Israeli election and what to expect going forward. Obama is engaging in
the region and the new government in Tel Aviv will be critical.
SB City Councilwoman Helene Schneider
has announced her candidacy for Mayor, and she joins us for the third
hour. We'll talk about homelessness, the city budget and her priorities,
the State St./de la Vina St. intersection, height limits, and more.

Saturday February 7,

I co-host with PDA Chair / Actress
Mimi Kennedy and Broadcast Journalist Bree Walker. In the first days
of his Presidency Barack Obama is coming under intense pressure from the
military to back down from his campaign promise to withdraw from Iraq
within 18 months. At a January 21 Oval Office meeting with top brass,
including Defense Secretary Gates and General Petraeus, Obama ordered
them to prepare a 16 month plan. Petraeus was visibly unhappy when he
left the Oval Office, and a network of senior military officers is reportedly
preparing to support Petraeus by mobilizing public opinion against Obama.
In addition, right-wing Hawks are pressuring the President and Congress
to increase military spending even beyond the projections of the Bush
Administration. We'll also talk about the Republican obstruction of the
Economic Stimulus Package, and Immigration,
Jacalyn Kane opened the Thermography
Center of Santa Barbara in December, 2008. She joins us in the second
hour to discuss the advantage of thermology to mammograms. Thermology
can tell you up to ten years prior to a mammogram if breast disease is
developing. Breast thermography is a 15 minute safe & non-invasive
test offering the earliest screening possible. Its role in breast cancer
and breast disorders is to help in early detection and monitoring of abnormal
physiology and the establishment of risk factors for the development or
existence of cancer.Mammograms ionizing radiation mutates cells, and the
mechanical pressure can spread cells that are already malignant (as can
biopsies). In 1995 the British medical journal The Lancet reported that,
since mammographic screening was introduced in 1983, the incidence of
ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), which represents 12% of all breast cancer
cases, has increased by 328%, and 200% of this increase is due to the
use of mammography. This increase is for all women: Since the inception
of widespread mammographic screening, the increase for women under the
age of 40 has gone up significantly.
Mimi's acting career has also kicked up
lately with her new movie "In The Loop" with James Gandolfini
which was a big hit at the Sundance Film Festival. We'll talk about this
and her one woman play "The Woman With All The Answers" where
she becomes Ann Landers. I didn't realize what a great humanitarian Landers
was until I saw the play at Pasadena Playhouse where it got rave reviews. We
also talk about the 3rd District election fiasco where loser Steve Pappas
is trying to disqualify thousands of votes from USCB and IV.

Saturday January 31,

So much for post-partisanship as every Republican in the
House votes against Obama's economic stimulus package. They were joined
by 44 Dems. Republicans vote as a block as we see in Sacramento, where
the state is on the verge of economic collapse. The Obama administration
is also talking about creating a "bad bank" to buy the financial
sector's bad assets. When the President criticized Wall Sreet bankers
for taking $18.4 billion of the bailout for bonuses, the bankers reacted
with anger. Californians lost 236,000 homes in 2008, up 180% from 2007.
That's where the bailout money needs to go.
On the foreign front, President Obama granted
Al-Arabiya, the Dubai cable network his first television interview since
taking office. The President told Muslims that "Americans are not
your enemy", "the moment is ripe for both sides" to negotiate
in the Middle East, and the US is ready to extend the "hand of friendship."
He offered a dialogue with Iran and sent envoy George Mitchell on an eight
day tour of the region. Defense Secretary Gates said "we are lost"
unless the US can find a way not to kill so many civilians in Afghanistan,
and that flooding the country with US troops would be a disaster, but
we're considering doubling the troop levels to about 60,000.
9/11 Citizens Grand Jury Prosecutor
Don Paul joins us in the second hour to talk about his new book "The
World Is Turning" which is the first to link 9/11 with the current
economic collapse. We'll talk about the Federal Reserve and it's role
in the collapse. Goldman Sachs in the year 2000 had assets of nearly $600
billion against "Bank Credit" of nearly $250 billion from the
Fed. By the end of 2007 they had assets of about $815 billion against
Bank Credit of more than $850 billion. We'll talk about Credit Default
Swaps and how Goldman Sachs is selling them to California bond investors
as hedges against the state going bankrupt and why it matters. We'll trace
how the same people are making pilles of tax dollars from 9/11, the TARP
bailout, the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and back to Vietnam. We'll also
have common sense solutions to fix it. Don will also talk about Rebuild
Green / New Orleans and his recent trips to Venezuela.
Nick Beeson joins us for the third hour
and things deteriorate pretty quick, but we have a lot of fun and it's
entertaining!

FINALLY!!!! A NEW PRESIDENT!!!!!
Pretty good start to the Obama presidency: Close Guantanamo, his first
overseas telephone call is Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas,
and limiting salaries in the executive branch of government to $100,000
a year. That means Rahm Emmanuel, Hillary, Gates, etc. Great job of leading
by example so far. I've also got to admit that I've hardly ever been more
proud to be an American than when I saw an African-American first family
in the White House. We may even enter the Sox vs. Cubs debate that the
President had with Illinois military members fighting in Iraq. In other
news, 3rd District loser Steve Pappas subpoenaed UCSB in his attempt to
disqualify thousands of voters from the November election. Even if he
succeeds, how would anyone be able to tell who voted for whom?
Sacramento Republicans seem determined
to commit suicide and take the rest of California with them. Assembly
Budget Committee Member Sandré Swanson joins us at the bottom
of the first hour to talk about the what the Dems will do to keep the
state afloat. Ahhnuld's calling on legislators not getting paid without
a budget and state workers taking a 10% pay cut through days off, but
maybe we should follow Barack's lead and cut executive branch salaries
in California to $100,000 a year. We'll also talk about the 2/3 budget/tax
rule, ballot measures, and the effect of the budget mess on education
at all levels.
Bree Walker is back from Costa Rica
and Washington and will join us in the second hour to talk about her eco-tour
and PDA conference as part of the Inauguration. It's time for the SB
Film Festival and we're joined at the bottom of the hour by Mark
Manning who premieres his film The Road To Falluja and has
a video conferencs with Iraqi people inside Iraq and the surrounding refugee
countries where we can see and talk directly to the Iraqis. After that
wwe're joined by Megan Doneman to talk about her film Yes Madam,
Sir, about India's first woman police officer and her crusade against
corruption.
SB City Councilwoman Iya Falcone is in
for the third hour to talk about the effect of the state budget mess on
Santa Barbara, like the Hiway 101 project, among other things. We'll talk
about her post city council future, Vince, and anything you want to call
in about.

Barack Obama becomes the 44th
President on Tuesday, and he's keeping his organization together to build
support among recalcitrant Dems in Congress for his programs. This is
exactly what Bill Clinton should have done in 1993, maintain full campaign
mode to push policy. This week the Inspector General released a report
that showed that the head of the civil rights and voting rights division
of the Justice Department from 2003-2006 hated career lawyers there and
hired ones that had only the right political views. Like other Bush Administration
officials, he is above the law and will not be prosecuted for his criminal
activity. Obama continues to duck the question of accountability for this
administration, and presidents in general. Heck, we all know that "...if
the President does it it's NOT illegal." This cancer has been festering
too long in our country, and NOT investigating is looking back, while
accountability and defending the Constitution IS looking forward with
the breath of fresh air we NEED.
Nick Beeson joins us for the
scond hour.
Ahhnuld gave what was supposedly his State
of the State address Thursday, and did little more than say the state
will probably run out of money at the end of the month. Jo Black of
Independent Living Resource Center will join us in the third hour
to talk about the effects of the budget cuts on the disabled community.
In order to balance the budget without raising taxes or fees, we would
have to eliminate ALL funding to UC, CSU, and the community colleges.
Also, all welfare programs, senior citizens, children's health, and Medi-Cal.
Oh yeah, also public works programs likre the Hiway 101 widening project
and the Coast Village Road project, unless SBCAG comes up with $20 million
for CalTrans that will never be paid back. The projects will be returned
to their original state if they have to be stopped.

Cities all over California
are finding creative ways of incurring debt to fix highways and other
public works projects with money drying up from the state. Revenue from
parking tickets is down, the state is cutting off funds for the Hiway
101 widening. Santa Barbara Mayor Marty Blum joins us in the first
hour to talk about how our city is faring in these tough economic times.
She's also leaving early for the Obama Inauguration and we'll talk about
that in our wide ranging conversation. Ahhnuld
vetoed the latest budget bill this past week, and California could start
issuing IOU's by February 1. He wants to cut the school year by five days,
with another hard hit on the poor and the future of our state as the GOP
dumbs down the next generation of Californians. We'll take a look back
at the Bush era, which I think was one of the most successful in history.
They created wars all over the globe, making a ton of money for Halliburton,
GE/NBC, and their other corporate masters. They finished the de-industrialization
of America, ruined our economy, and made us the most hated nation in the
world. I always thought their goal was to ruin America and they seem to
have succeeded in driving our country head first into the ground.

Saturday January 3,

Gov. Blago appoints a Senator
to replace Obama, but the sitting Senators call the appointment unwelcome
and there's controversy in the New York Senate appointment to fill Hillary
Clinton's seat. Ahhnuld's trying to bludgeon the legislature to step up
the budget release, but it's not important enough to him to come back
from vacation. He wants to cut the state work force and force a 10% pay
cut on the ones who remain. After his 2006 reelection he gave big pay
hikes (20% to 72%) to state workers who took time off to work for his
campaign. If we need to cut workers salaries, why don't we roll the wages
of ALL state workers, including the executive branch, back to January
2006 levels for starters. California spent over $1 BILLION fighting fires
this year, and cities are finding creative ways to borrow more money for
things like street repair. It's getting pretty nasty out there. We'll
also talk about Israel, Palestine and the Gaza Strip.
We have our Democratic president and big
majorities in both houses of Congress, so now we need to move our leaders
to the left. Progressive Democrats of America Director Tim Carpenter
joins us in the second hour to talk about what PDA does now to push Obama
to get out of Iraq, Afghanistan, and universal healthcare among other
issues. We'll also find out what they will be doing at the innauguration.

Kazakhstan is considering
the deployment of peacekeepers to Afghanistan - the first Central Asian
soldiers to be sent there since the Soviet-Afghan war of the 1980s. Pakistan
is cracking down on LET extremists linked to the Mumbai attacks, and militants
attacked NATO supplies on their way to Afghanistan, destroying 250 containers.
We'll definitely talk about Illinois Governor Rod Blagoveich and pay-to-play
in general, regardless of what it's called.
Bree Walker joins us for the second
hour.A new LA Times poll shows about 75% of Americans are glad Obama was
elected. At least we have a very smart guy to deal with keeping the Big
3 afloat, with about 3 million good jobs at stake, not to mention what's
left of our manufacturing base. Oh...we lost 58,000 jobs last WEEK to
bring to 4.43 million people collecting unemployment, the highest number
in 26 years. According to MarketWatch, if this pace is sustained it may
be an indicator of more severe deterioration to come.
Not to be outdone, California's budget deficit
will swell to $41.8 BILLION by July 2010. The state will take in only
about $86 BILLION in revenue in the upcoming fiscal year. Unlike the Feds,
we can't simply print more money. It takes 8 Republican legislators to
vote to raise taxes or pass a budget, but they refuse to consider it.
Without raising taxes we would have to completely eliminate ALL funding
for state universities, welfare, developmental services mental health
and in-home supportive services, or we can release all the prisoners.
Even if these Republicans consent to save California, there may not be
enough time left to save our state.
We'll also talk about the health BENEFITS
of coffee, red wine, and Marijuana! There will be no show next week, Dec,
20.

between nuclear armed Pakistan and India in the wake of the Mumbai attacks,
Afghanistan, and the Iraqi response to the final version of the Status
Of Forces Agreement.
Bree Walker joins us to talk about
Bush's disastrous new environmental rules on his way out of office and
the Republican destruction of California and stays for the second hour
with Byron..
Former Congressional candidate Byron
DeLear joins us in the second hour to talk about why we need to bail
out the auto industry. It may have something to do with 3 million jobs

about the general economic decline and what we SHOULD be doing about it.

Camp Casey, which she bought from Cindy Sheehan. We'll also talk about
Obama's team, the California Budget mess, and the destruction of UC, Cal
State, and the rest of our public education system by a handful of Republicans.
We'll also talk about Iraq and Afghanistan.
AfterDowningStreeet.org's David Swanson

The new Obama Administration is taking shape and I wonder
if this is really "Change We Can Believe In" or simply the third
Clinton term. See what happens with Treasury Secretary and Defence Secretary.
So far the reported picks of Hillary Clinton and Eric Holder an AG are
less than HOPEful and a serious cause for concern. The US and Iraq signed
the new Status of Forces Agreement that closes the door on a US military
presence beyond 2011. Syria and Britain are warming their relations in
order to try stabilizing the situations in lebanon and Iraq. We'll talk
about Afghanistan and irritants being injected into US / Russia relations
by the Bush Administration.
Bree Walker joins us for the last segment of the first hour.
The California State University system
is considering cutting enrolment by 10,000 qualified students for the
first time in its history for the 2009/2010 school year. State Republicans
are succeeding at destroying our formerly world class education system
that has led to california becoming the 7th largest economy in the world.
We'll also talk about Somali Pirates.
Watergate Burglar E. Howard Hunt
was implicated in most of the CIA scandals of 1950's and 1960's from Watergate,
to overthrowing the democratically elected government of Guatemala, to
attempts on the life of Fidel Castro, and the Assassination of President
Kennedy. His alibi for that one was that he was home with his family that
day and weekend. His eldest son Saint John Hunt joins us in the
second hour to talk about where his father was or wasn't on November 22,
45 years ago, Nixon's "smoking gun tape" about how Hunt can
unravel a lot of threads so "we've got to pay him the money."
We'll talk about a wide range of these subjects, like helping destroy
evidence the night of the Watergate break-in and E. Howard's death bed
confession to his son. We look into so many dark corners that Saint John

AIG execs have another lavish
party with taxpayer dollars. These people need to be locked up like the
thieves they are, and their enablers in the Administration and Congress
with them. As California's budget deficit grows to $24 BILLION through
mid-2010 the Bush Administration has pushed through a tax break for a
small group of banks, primarily Wells Fargo, that will cost the state
an additional $2 BILLION. A Massachusetts judge is blocking H&R Block
from automatically foreclosing on up to 9,700 Bay State homeowners.
We'll talk about the three outstanding
US Senate races and our own state Senate race, the continuing fallout
form Prop 8, and at the Obama transition. LA County Sheriff's Dept acknowleedged
Wednesday that it had more than 5600 rape kits that had not been processed.
We've got a take on it and will talk about it. Bree Walker joins us for
the last segment of thee first hour.
As our financial system lurches into an
unknown future, traditional views of wealth and personal rewards are being
questioned. Lew Daly, author of "Unjust Deserts" joins us in
the second hour to talk about the bonanza that individuals reap from public
investment. For someone to assert that that they have grown wealthy in
America without the benefit of substantial public investment is laughable.
We'll talk about "self-made men and women," and a system of
taxation that is substantial enough to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure,
educational system, and provide healthcare. He proposes a series of practical
policies to achieve wealth redistribution in an era when the disparities
have become untenable.

Saturday November 8,
2008
PRESIDENT-ELECT BARACK HUSSEIN
OBAMA IN A LANDSLIDE!!! Real change we can believe in or recycled Clinton
Administration? The clear mandate and gains in the House and Senate look
good for getting legislation through the Congress. We'll talk about the
three undecided Senate races, voting irregularities in Alaska and elsewhere.
More stray US bombs kill Afghanistan civilians and President Karzai asks
us to stop killing civilians. The world seems to welcome the change, and
hopefully Obama will keep his promise to end the mindset that brings us
to war. We'll look at some of the most contentious ballot measures in
CA and around the country, along with the too close to call Jackson /
Strickland race.
We caught up with Congresswoman Lois
Capps on Wednesday and she give us her take on the election at the
bottom of the first hour.
Bree Walker joins us at the end of the
first hour and stays for a lot of the second hour.
KB Solomon possesses a true bass
voice and is one of the most prominent basso profundo singers, having
performed principal roles with major opera companies worldwide for twenty
years. He will sing and we'll talk about KB's one man musical/play, SPEAK
OF ME AS I AM, reprising Paul Robeson's life and music. KB recognized
that to have the name of Paul Robeson not in the forefront of American
history, especially in terms of civil rights was a travesty of justice.
We'll also talk about the first African-American president.

Hour 3
Saturday November 1,
2008
The last weekend before the election and we'll talk a LOT
about it. The 30 minute informercial Obama ran was great. The shots of
the faux Oval Office, real people talking about how they have lost their
lifestyles. The older black man and his wife straightening her fingers
with Rheumatoid Arthritis after he retired and she lost her health insurance.
He had to go back to work after the medical bills wiped out their savings
and the image of his Wal-Mart name tag was powerful. The specifics of
his policies was also appreciated. The war in Afghanistan expands and
the US strikes inside Syria. Ahhnuld wants to cut $2-$4 BILLION from California
schools immediately, which educators say would be catastrophic. LAUSD
Supt. says they will literally have to close schools while Republicans
say Ahhnuld's proposed sales tax increase is off the table. The Republican
goal seems to be to destroy California!! We'll talk about this and the
importance of getting Hannah-Beth Jackson elected. Bree Walker
joins us at the end of the first hour.
Author Sue Katz joins us in the
second hour to talk about Sarah Palin and her new book "Thanks But
No Thanks: The Voter's Guide To Sarah Palin." We'll talk about "Mavericks
Gone Wild," the rape kit scandal, separation of church and state,
Roe V. Wade, and much more.
BradBlog.com's Brad Friedman joins
us along with Bree Walker to talk about the state of the election,
Oprah's vote that didn't register, Bree being scrubbed from the voting
rolls, and what happens on Wednesday in McCain wing.

Saturday October 25,

John McCain starts his "Joe the Plumber Tour"
with the RNC buying Sarah Palin a $400,000 WARDROBE which is $23,500 MORE
EXPENSIVE than Joe the Plumber's HOUSE!!! Just one of the folks!!! Colin
Powell gives an eloquent endorsement of Obama and former Republican Governor
of Minnesota Arne Carlson said "I think we have in Barack Obama the
clear possibility of a truly great president," in his endorsement.
Meanwhile, police departments across the country are beefing up and preparing
for civil unrest, and Michael Chertoff says "a presidential change
could lead to another terrorist attack. Should we maybe not change Presidents??!!!???
In the Pipeline War of Central Asia, Russia, Iran, and Qatar announce
they are forming an OPEC-like Gas Cartel that will control 60% of the
world's gas supply. Bree Walker joins us at the end of the first
hour.
State Senate Candidate Hannah-Beth Jackson
joins us for the second hour to talk some really important issues that
she can do something about, such as subprime morgages & predatory
lending, education funding, closing tax loopholes, alternative energy?
This is the biggest race in the state, and a Jackson victory could be
instrumental in breaking the annual California budget fiasco.
Michal Vital, Israeli Architect and Eco-builder
joins us in the third hour to talk about Bustan, in the Negev Desert in
Israel. The word "bustan" refers to a fruit-yielding orchard
in both Hebrew and Arabic and symbolizes the work of Bustan. It is a partnership
of Jewish and Arab eco-builders, architects, academics, and farmers promoting
social and environmental justice in Israel/Palestine with a focus on the
Bedouin villages of the Negev Desert. BUSTAN utilizes the principles of
permaculture and non-violent direct action across ethnic divides. She
will also be speaking at the Faulkner Gallery Tuesday from 7-9pm. PDA
Director Tim Carpenter joins us at the bottom of the third hour from
Ohio. We talk about PDA's work in this election and beyond.

Hour 3
Saturday October 18,
2008
The last debate...McCain seemed
angry and Obama actually lays out positions. I was screaming at the TV
for Barack to hit back with Charlie Black lobbying for Columbia to Rick
Davis lobbying for Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, to his votes against veterans
benefits, and much more. Obama takes the high road and this year it seems
to work. Hank Paulsen gives $700,000,000,000 (BILLION) of our tax dollars
to the same Wall Street thieves who stole the rest of it without giving
we taxpayers any controlling interest in the distribution and profits.
The Dow crashes, comes back, and crashes again. Gold has had about a $100
fluctuation in the past week, rising or falling $30 or so a day, up or
down. If Obama wins, what exactly will he win? Answer: A country $55 trillion
in the hole (that's $480,000 per household), embroiled in unpopular wars
and set to endure unemployment not seen since the 1930s. Perhaps conditions
are also in place for Obama to ditch the "war on terror" - and
launch a war on poverty. Bree Walker joins us at the end of the
first hour and stays through thee second.
Turkmenistan's gas reserves, revealed after
an independent audit, elevates the country to the top rank of gas producers.
More, it renders Moscow's energy strategy obsolescent and rekindles United
States and European hopes of loosening Russia's grip on Central Asian
gas pipelines. Former invader China has its own trump cards to play.
Gary Linker, Executive Director of New
Beginnings Counseling Center joins us at the bottom of the third hour
to talk about recidivism in the CA prison system.

Hour 3
Saturday October 11,
2008
What a bizarre debate!! McCain looks like he has dementia
and at the end seemed to be wandering around until Tom Brokaw asked him
to stop blocking the teleprompter. Even the "...my friends..."
seemed scripted. Colorado has had one of the biggest voter registration
drives in history but there are 100,000 less voters on the roles than
in 2004. A lot of voting rights problems in other key states, too. The
economy continues to crumble, and Paulsen puts a 35 year old kid who worked
for Goldman Sachs in charge of distributing the $700,000,000,000 (BILLION)
to Wall Street while AIG execs party to the tune of over $1 MILLION of
our tax dollars. Bree Walker joins us for the last segment of the
first hour.
24th Congressional District Candidate
Marta Jorgensen is in for the second hour to talk about her race against
Elton Gallegly. In the second half of the hour her Communications Director
Michael Sauvante joins us to continue our conversation from two weeks
ago about alternative energy and how to convert our vehicles from gas
to alcohol now.
Goleta City Council Candidate Margaret
Connell joins us to talk about growth and more of her vision for Goleta.
SB Foundation Director Chuck Slosser
is in at the bottom of the third hour for a conversation about the work
of the foundation.

The McCain campaign pulls
out of Michigan. Palin was great with talking points but very thin on
policy. Meanwhile the Senate passes a Wall Street Bailout of $700 BILLION
of our taxes with none going to Main Street. McCain votes for it, then
calls on Bush to veto it. You've got to love the consistency!! We'll debunk
some of the lies here, and also with Tony Strickland's lies about his
alternative energy "credentials" and an SEC suit for stock fraud.
Broadcast Journalist Bree Walker joins us for the last 10 minutes
for her weekly segnment.
Bree will stay over to join a conversation
with Jeff Chester to talk about his new book, "Digital
Destiny: New Media and the Future of Democracy." Among other
things, we'll talk deregulation of the media and about the need to properly
regulate internet ownership so that it doesn't look like TV.
SB City Councilmember Iya Falcone is
in for the third hour to talk about Measure A, building height limitations,
and her plans for the future. The Ricardo Juarez trial is wrapping up,
and we'll probably talk about that, gangs, and much more.

Saturday September 27,

The economy crumbles and Bush
wants $700 BILLION to bail out Wall Street millionaires. McCain tries
to blame Obama, but McShame's campaign manager Rick Davis lobbied for
looser regulation of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae and received at least
$15,000 per month from 2000 until LAST MONTH. McCain tries to duck the
first Presidential debate, probably so that the Vice Presidential debate
would be cancelled. McCain's health is also becoming an issue between
his recurring melanoma, psychological profile, and is he having problems
with movement of the left side of his face? President Palin??!!?? We'll
also talk about California's economy and maybe Pakistan. Broadcast Journalist
Bree Walker joins us for the last 10 minutes in what will probably be
a weekly segnment.
Michael Sauvante is a local entreprneur
who is starting bottom-up, triple bottom line Corporate Cooperatives.
He's advocating literally a new ism, in contrast to capitalism,
socialism and communism. It entails economic structures that make use
of some of the elements of the three former systems. It incorporates a
number of their desirable elements while discarding their undesirable
ones. It is called Holistic Capitalism. He'll be joined by
David Blume, Executive Director of the International Institute for
Ecological Agriculture to talk about ethanol, alcohol, and general
ecological sustainability.
Goleta City Council Candidate Ed Easton
joins us for the third hour to talk about growth and much more about his
vision of Goleta.

The economy is on the verge
of collapse and Bush wants a $1TRILLION bailout. About $200,000,000 goes
to McCain fundraiser John Thain and two of his cronies while McShame accuses
Obama of hobnobbing with jetsetting CEO's! We also talk about Palin and
Troopergate. The refusal to honor legislative subpoenas looks mightily
like what we haqve had for the past eight yeaars.
Brazillian
singer Michelle Lvov
joins us aalong with guitarist Bruno Piniero for music and talk aabout
Brazil at the top of the second hour. State Controller John Chiang
is here for the bottom of the hour. We talk about the new budget, AAhhnuld's
lawsuit against him for refusing to cut the pay of 200,000 state workers
to federal minimum wage, and his suit against the Minerals Management
Agency over auditing oil royalties.
Broadcast Journalist Bree Walker is in
for the third hour to talk about the state of media in America in 2008.
We talk about coverage of the presidential election, war, where we could
better spend that money and much more.

Emily

talk about how we can protect our vote for the 2008 election. We're joined
by four candidates who have taken the Standing For Voters pledge to neither
accept victory nor concede defeat until all the votesw are counted and
a clear winner is named.
SB City Councilmember
Dale Francisco joins us for the third hour to talk about a
host of issues involving the city. We talk about height limits, Measure
A that replaces Measure D and much more. Dale is the only Republican on
the Council, but more of the Eisenhower type as opposed to the current
brand.

Welcome to McCain's America:
Democracy Now! Host Amy Goodman was arrested while questioning police
about the unlawful detention of Producers Sharif Abdel Kouddous and Nicole
Salazar, who were arrested while they carried out their journalistic duties
in covering street demonstrations at the Republican National Convention.
Law enforcement officers used pepper spray, rubber bullets, concussion
grenades and excessive force against protesters and journalists. Several
dozen demonstrators were also arrested during this action, as was a photographer
for the Associated Press. It was a great propaganda show, though. The
big screen address by Bush, the flags, and "Country First" slogan!!!!
What kind of patriot would send American jobs to China and sell our country
to China so we can fight a war to enrich our campaign contributors and
friends?? At least Colbert was there to bring some sanity back with Susan
Eisenhower, who left the Republican Party a couple weeks ago to support
Obama.
There's other news, too. Cheney's in Georgia
to meet with Saakashvili, the US sent ground forces into Pakistan for
the first time, and Joe Biden says he and Barack Obama could bring criminal
charges against the Bush administration if they are elected in November.
Let's work to make it happen!!
Dr. Erwin Chemerinsky and Jim Mangia
join us in the third hour to talk about Prop 11 the California Redistricting
proposal. Chemerinsky is one of the great legal minds in the country and
maybe he can convince me to support it. Mangia is CEO of St. John's Well
Child and Family Centers in South LA. Thursday's LA Times front page story
talks about how the state budget impasse is effecting care givers, and
he'll stay on to talk about that.

SB City Councilmember Das
Williams joins us for the first hour. We'll talk about Measure A,
gangs, Coast Village Road, and the city's role in energy independence.
The California budget is late again, talks are breaking down and we'll
see how that effects the City of Santa Barbara.
Great convention!!! Especially Barack's
acceptance speech!! Spectacular
speeches by Hillary and Bill Clinton for unity and Obama at the Convention.
The oil and coal industries have spent $427 million in lobbying for the
first half of 2008. Ahhnuld is criticizing the Prison Guards Union for
making a big contribution in opposition to Prop 11. Apparently in Ahhnuld's
mind it's only ok for Chevron, big contractors, and brokerage houses that
give him large contributions to try to influence government. We're still
watching the Russia / Georgia conflict, along with Pakistan, Afghanistan,
and Iraq.
PDA Board Chair & Actress Mimi Kennedy
and husband Larry Dilg are back from Denver and will join us for the
third hour with live music and a lot of political talk. We'll talk about
the Convention, the election, PDA's role in the Convention and election,
including Congressional races and grassroots work. Mimi has made a movie
for BBC since the last time she was on and we'll talk about that, and
Larry's got some new songs to sing. This will be a fun hour!

The Swift Boating of Hannah-Beth Jackson
begins with a $114,000 ad buy painting her as a tax and spend Democrat
by Borrow and Spend Republicans who are trying to destroy California's
infrastructure and bankrupting our children's future. We also talk about
the Russia/Georgia conflict. Wind turbine engineer Marty Gardner
joins us at the bottom of the hour to talk about the benefits of wind
energy and what we need to do to convert.
Leslie Carde's new documentary America
Betrayed is narrated by Richard Dreyfus and opened yesterday in LA.
We talk about the looting of the treasury in the aftermath of Hurricane
Katrina, 9/11, and more. New Orleans has been largely abandoned except
for the tourist areas, and been reduced from a city of around 800,000
to around 200,000 now.
Barack Obama Delegate Tim Allison joins
us for the third hour from the Democratic National Convention to talk
about the convention activities, the electoral map, Joe Biden, and much
more.

Matt Kokkonen is running for
the 23rd Congressional District against Lois Capps. He joins us for
an extremely entertaining first hour. Mattclaims to have visited ANWR
a number of times and much more. The tax code, 9/11, and impeachment are
particularly fun.
In the second hour we talk about the effect
on California of Ahhhnuld's lawsuit against the Controller, the effect
of state Republicans on MediCal and college education. We also talk a
lot about the war between Russia and Georgia and our policy toward former
Soviet Republics.
Hillary Clinton Delegate, fmr 2nd District
Supervisor Susan Rose joins us for the third hour to talk about the
Dem Convention, Party unity, sexism in politics and society as a whole,
Hillary's campaign, you had comments about me, so we can talk about that
if you want. We can talk about the importance of this election, what you're
up to as a private citizen

Paris Hilton jumps into the
Presidential race with the best ad of the season and the second best energy
policy, ahead of that "old wrinkly dude." Oh, her parents ask
McCain for their $4600 back, too. Strange times.!!! CBS Propaganda machine's
former journalist Jeff Greenfield reported Bill Clinton's "...decidedly
lukewarm endorsement of Obama's credentials" but neglected to mention
that Clinton continued with "I certainly learned a lot ...in my first
year...he clearly can inspire people and motivate people and energize
them, which is a very important part of being president, and he's smart
as a whip so there's nothing he can't learn."
Assemblymember Dave Jones is a member
of the Budget Committee. He joins us at the top of the second hour to
talk about the budget, the 2/3 majority to pass one, the effect of the
Governor's executive order cutting state workers salaries to Federal minimum
wage on the state and the workers it will affect. According to the budget
committee the state spends $2.5 Billion a year interest to service the
budgetary debt. I will probably ask him about how this, specifically will
effect it..."WHEREAS due to the impending cash crisis and budget
delay, the State may be forced to consider a Revenue Anticipation Warrant
(RAW) at an exorbitant cost to the State, including hundreds of millions
of dollars in credit enhancements, in order to make sure there is sufficient
cash to pay for state expenditures." We will also talk about the
taxes the Dems want to raise and what they pay for as investments in the
future, including the oil extraction and windfall profits taxes that Audra
Strickland calls a publicity stunt. I guess that's especially appropriate
considering Exxon Mobil's record quarterly profit.
PDA Director Tim Carpenter joins
us at the bottom of the second hour to talk about the Denver convention,
PDA's Progressive Central there, the November election, and their Healthcare
Not Warfare campaign for Single Payer Healthcare.
We caught up with Congresswoman Lois
Capps Thursday to talk about energy, the Dems plan to release oil
from the Strategic Petroleum Reserves, which would actually lower energy
prices by 9% to 33% within 10 days, unlike the McCain/Bush plan which
might reduce the price of gas by 2 cents in 10 years...real reform! We
also talk about the bill in Congress that will give Bush the authority
to launch a land, air, and sea blockade against Iran and higher education.

Exxon Mobil's $11.86 Billion
SECOND QUARTER profit is the largest EVER for any corporation in HISTORY!!!!
Wonder why we're paying over $4 a gallon?? Also, the GAO reported that
more than 9000 Corporations had registered in a single Cayman Islands
office building.
Journalist Robert Scheer joins us in the
first hour to talk about his new book, "The Pornography of Power:
How Defense Hawks Hijacked 9/11 and Weakened America" Among other
things, as of September, 2007, U.S. troops were stationed at more than
820 installations in at least 39 countries, the total 2008 military budget
request was $647 billion, more than 25 percent larger, in real terms,
than the one for 1968, at the height of combat in Vietnam, and much more.
Robert Scheer will be speaking in Santa Barbara August 6 at Victoria Theatre.
Election Activist Dr. Bob Fitrakis
co-wrote Dennis Kucinich's Impeachment Articles 28 and 29. He's back on
the show for the second hour to talk about election integrity (or lack
threrof) in Ohio and around the country for the 2008 election. Over the
past couple years Bush has issued a number of Executive Orders that could
give him the power to declare martial law and incarcerate most anyone
in the detention centers that KBR/Halliburton have built around the country
and we'll talk about that, Iran, and T. Boone Pickens and energy independence.
Fmr. Missouri Senator Jim Talent joins
us in the third hour to talk about our crumbling infrastructure. He's
a conservative Republican and I'm a Progressive Democrat, but we agreed
on almost everything. A very interesting discussion about one of the most
important issues of our time.
Ahhhnuld issued his Executive Order to cut pay
of state workers to federal minimum wage until a budget is passed. Staffers
won't be paid at all, but they can get interest free loans to be repaid
after the budget is adopted, but what about the 200,000 state workers
who won't be able to pay their mortgages and other bills. California pays
$2.5 BILLION a year to service it's budgetary debt. It's money we get
NOTHING for, and now Governor Cut-Up-The-Credit-Cards wants to issue "...Revenue
Anticipation Warrant (RAW) at an exorbitant cost to the State, including
hundreds of millions of dollars in credit enhancements." The Republicans
seem willing to destroy the entire state infrastructure to avoid reinstating
the 11% top tax rate and putting an extraction tax and windfall profits
tax on oil companies. Oh...BTW

Saturday July 26, 2008
Barack Obama speaks in Berlin
and draws the biggest crowd for a political figure since JFK in 1961.
Interestingly, his reception turned sour when he called for refocusing
our war efforts to Afghanistan. The Germans want peace and maybe they
can help move Obama in that direction. While McCain whines about all the
great press Obama is getting, Katiie Couric and the CBS Propaganda Machine
edits an interview gaffe of his and replaces it with part of an answer
to a different question. He said the Surge, announced Jan. 10, 2007 was
responsible for the Anbar Awakening which began in Sept. 2006. Don't we
have the right to know that John McCain may be in the early stages of
Alzheimers or is just really stupid? Apparently the CBS Propaganda Machine
doesn't think so. Ahhnuld is ready to order state worker wages to be cut
to minimum wage. I doubt it will apply to his overpaid political appointees
who got up to 70% raises last year, only to people who actually work for
a living.
Soul Brasil Magazine is presenting "Hot-Emotion:The
Santa Barbara Summer Brazilian Music & Flavor Experience" and
Brasilian actress Julia Melim joins us in the second hour to talk
about the event, food, music, and culture. This is a political show, and
Julia, who immigrated to the US five years ago will discuss immigration
rights, poverty and the crime that is created by it, both in the favellas
of Rio and the streets of Santa Barbara.
Fiesta is next week and SB City Councilwoman
Helene Schneider is in for the third hour to talk gangs, safety precautions
for Fiesta, and the celebration. We'll also talk about homelessness, the
Coast Village Road project, the Social Host Ordinance, and Measure D which
is Measure A on the Novemer and the effect on MTD and more if it doesn't
pass.

Santa Barbara Mayor Marty Blum and Fish Talk Radio Host
John Henigin join us for the first hour for a discussion about how
high fuel prices are having sweeping effects across our society from cities
to the commercial and sport fishing industries. We'll also talk about
the effect on trucking industry, how it's being consolidated like the
media, and how diesel prices drive up the price of food and everything
else. After Mayor Marty leaves we'll talk ABOUT her and the recent series
of smears in the SB News Press by convicted drunk Travis Armstrong.
It's a big week for other news, too. The
Bush Administration will hold meetings with Iran on Saturday about sanctions
and it's nuclear program. Is Iran trying to run out the clock until we
have a new President? Is Bush going to use failed talks as an excuse to
bomb? The Iraqi government wants full security control and a US timeline
for withdrawl by the end of the year. We'll also talk about Czechoslovakia
and more.
An astonishing 25% of California's high
school students drop out, and UCSB Professpr Russell Rumberger
joins us to talk about it. The human cost aside, it costs $42,000 a year
to incarcerate somebody here and the dumbing down of our kids will create
future crises from that. We'll also talk about the budget crisis and how
much we spend servicing our debt each year as Gov. Cut-Up-The-Credit-Cards
wants to borrow more.

Saturday July 12, 2008
Greetings fellow American
whiners! We'll talk about Phil Gramm, McCain, and $4.60 a gallon gas.
The Iraqi government wants a timeline for US withdrawl by the end of the
year. Russia threatens a military response to the US missle defense system
in Czech Repiblic and Poland and Iran shoots off missles as the G8 meeting
begins in Japan. Barack Obama's Berlin visit is sparking a diplomatic
row because Chancellor Angela Merkel doesn't want him speaking at the
Brandenburg Gate. We'll also talk about the California budget crisis.
AfterDowningStreet's David Swanson
joins us for the second hour to talk about Iraq, Iran, impeachment, and
accountability. We also talk about the election, both Presidential and
and Congressional elections and the Progressive agenda.
The Hill's Brent Budowsky joins us for
the third hour to talk about Iran, energy and the bottom falling out of
our entire economy. We'll hit the jib jab liberal radio and internet grievances
and focus on the big crises and big issues and what we need to do ASAP,
or else..... We'll also talk about VP choices and what Brent likes so
much about Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius among other things.

Obama opens a five point lead
over McCain in...MONTANA!! Rassmussen also has him leading by 200-171
Electoral Votes with 167 toss-ups. McCain goes to Colombia to push for
a free trade agreement with one of the most brutal regimes in South America,
while the US loses 62,000 jobs in June. McCain allies have found new loopholes
in the McCain/Feingold finance law to reel in huge contributions to use
against Obama, and John and Cindy get caught dodging over $8400 in property
taxes in San Diego over 5 years. American Airlines announced it will cut
nearly 7000 jobs as oil surges to $146 a barrel. Democratic Congressional
leaders authorized over $400 million for covert operations inside Iran
to destabilize their government.
Constitutional Attorney Stephen Rohde
joins us for the second hour to give us his take about the FISA bill that's
moving through Congress, crimes committed by the Bush Administration and
the possiblity of prosecution after they leave office in the US or any
other jurisdiction, and the general state of the Constitution and Bill
of Rights in the aftermath of this Administration and the failure of Congress
to impeach and what it means going forward. We'll also talk about torture,
signing statements, and maybe the Supreme Court.

Hour 3
Saturday June 28, 2008
John McCain was in SB this
week to have an environmental forum with Ahhnuld and several other people.
We'll talk about that, oil drilling and why we can't drill our way out
of our oil dependency. Barack Obama unveiled his strategy of expanding
the Democratic electoral map by challenging McCain in 14 states won by
Bush, including Virginia and Indiana, where he leads. He will also spend
resources in reliably red states where Congressional and Senate races
are close. Two big Supreme Court decisions, and we'll definitely talk
about the Second Amendment and Exxon Valdez.
In January, 2004 Steve Heller was
working for a law firm representing Diebold. When he saw documents proving
Diebold was violating California election laws by knowingly peddling voting
machine software that had not received state certification, he copied
and released the documents to the press and California Secretary of State's
office. The illegal and defective software failed in the March, 2004 primary
election leaving 40,000 voters unable to cast a ballot. His research led
to Articles XXVIII and XXVIX of Rep. Dennis Kucinich's Articles of Impeachment
against George W. Bush introduced in the House on June 10, 2008.
The race between Barack Obama and Hillary
Clinton brought up the issue of does a woman need to out tough a man to
be elected to high office. Susan Shaer is Director of WAND - Women's
Action for New Directions and she joins us at the bottom of the second
hour to talk about empowering women to act politically to reduce violence
and militarism, and redirect excessive military resources toward unmet
human and environmental needs.
When I first started doing this show the
station I was on had a webcast. A Conservative whack job named Larry called
several times to challenge me on most everything. Last week when I hosted
Clout! Larry Hiss found me again and he will join us in the third
hour as a guest to debate the JFK assassination, Obama, William Ayers,
and much more. It should be a good spirited hour and we may even talk
about David Mamet and making Iraq the 51st state!

Hour 3
Saturday June 21, 2008
Back from vacation with a
full show this week. Charles Manson Prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi
joins us for the first hour and takes your calls about his new book, "The
Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder." Bugliosi lays out the
case for the prosecution of the President and other high administration
officials in every jurisdiction that has had a soldier who has died in
Iraq. There is no statute of limitations for murder and this could make
life very difficult for the warmongers if even a few jurisdictions proceed.
Bugliosi has successfully prosecuted 105 of 106 cases and presents a very
compelling case here.
James Douglass' new book "JFK and
the Unspeakable: Why He Died and Why It Matters" traces the President's
quest for peace in the face of opposition from most of his military leaders,
many members of his administration, business leaders profitting from the
Cold War, and the CIA among others. Were JFK's backchannel communications
with Krushchev and Castro, the American University speech laying out a
path for peace to end the Cold War, and JFK's plan to end the Vietnam
War the reasons he had to be removed? We'll talk about the similarities
between the foiled Chicago assassination plot for November 2, 1963, scapegoat
Thomas Arthur Vallee, and the connection to the Assassination of South
Vietnam President Ngo Dinh Diem. Douglass' well documented case for a
military coup to remove the President BECAUSE of his desire for peace
makes this is the book I've been waiting for.
Scrolling down the front page of

catches me up with all the news of the day/week that I've missed while
vacationing and Mark Karlin joins us for the third hour. We'll
talk about Obama and terrorism, his opting out of public financing, and
maybe Caroline Kennedy's role in the campaign. Loose nukes from Pakistan
are in the news and I'm sure John McCain will come up.

The UK Independent reveals
Bush's secret plan to perpetuate the Occupation of Iraq in which US troops
would occupy permanent bases, conduct military operations, arrest Iraqis
and enjoy immunity from Iraqi law. This lays the basis for John McCain's
unending conflict in the Middle east. The timing of the agreement is intended
partly to boost the Republican candidate and undercut Barack Obama's pledge
to withdraw from Iraq if he is elected in November. A major shake-up of
Air Force top brass over loose nukes.
State Senate Candidate Hannah-Beth Jackson
is in for the second hour to talk about her race, the state budget, and
UC and Cal State fee increases while Republicans refuse to remove the
yacht tax loophole, loopholes for gas-guzzling vehicles owned by business,
tax breaks for racehorses used for breeding, and tax breaks for oil companies
that extract our oil.
In the third hour Broadcast Journalist
Bree Walker calls in from The National Conference For Media Reform
in Minneapolis. We'll talk about media consolidation and it's effect on
creativity and talent, the proliferation of syndication, what voices are
heard or silenced, the selling of war, and many other media issues.

The White House plans to attack
Iran within the next two months and is briefing senators on the plan,
a foreign affairs establishment source in Washington says. Democratic
Party leaders are intensifying their efforts to encourage remaining uncommitted
superdelegates to make their choice public by the middle of next week.
Sen. Chuck Hagel's wife donates to Obama and McCain media strategist Mark
McKinnon resigns because he likes and won't work against the presumptive
Dem nominee.
PDA endorsed Congressional Candidate
Mary Pallant joins us at the top of the second hour to talk about
her campaign to unseat 24th District Congressman Elton Galegly. We'll
talk about Iraq, health care, rebuilding our economy, and clean elections,
among other things.
17 Vererans per month are comitting suicide
while under the care of the Veterans Affairs Dept for Bush and McCain's
policy of perpetual war. Veterans Affairs and Democratic Party Activist
Bob Handy is in to talk about this, the lawsuit against the Department,
and how the Republican Party is blocking any meaningful legislation to
help our Vets. I'm sure we'll get to some Dem Party politics, too.
The Halliburton subsidiary KBR (formerly
Brown and Root) announced on Jan. 24, 2006 that it had been awarded a

Senate Republicans help Democrats
add support for veterans and the unemployed to a bill paying $165 BILLION

added billions of dollars in other domestic funds such as heating subsidies
for the poor. The House Judiciary Committee subpoenas Karl Rove in the
Don Siegelman affair. Obama begins his search for a Vice-President. Chris
Dodd and Jim Webb are reportedly on the short list.
Peter Mathews is running for Congress
in Long Beach on a platform including Health Care For All, out of
Iraq, and creating high paying jobs. California spends less per pupil
on K-12 education than 39 states. As Congressman Mathews will bring back
more of our Federal tax dollars and we'll talk with Professor Mathews
about how to fix our broken education system.

care, building a sustainable economy, renewable energy and more.
We've got two competing Eminent Domain

changes condemnation rules and increases costs to local governments.

Thanks to everyone who emailed
Richard Greene to get me as a co-host on Clout! Richard said he was inundated
with emails from you!
A bizzare news week. The President compares
Obama's wanting to talk to Iran with Neville Chamberlain's appeasement
of Hitler in front of the Israeli Knesset, and Hillary comes to Obama's
defense. Dems win their 3rd Congressional special election in a solidly
Republican district in Mississippi after the Republicans ran ads trying
to link Travis Childers to Obama. Governor
Cup-up the Credit Cards wants to BORROW $15B against future lottery receipts
to close the CA budget defecit. The US pays $430B a year in interest on
the debt and Ahhnuld is trying to do the same to California. We get absolutely
nothing for those interest payments. Cal State approves a 10% student
fee increase and UC is hiking fees by 7.4%. The privatization and dumbing
down of the next generation continues.
Air America co-founders Anita and Sheldon
Drobny have started NovaM Radio and syndicated Randi Rhodes. They
were also big supporters and contributors to Hillary Clinton, but now
support Obama. We'll talk about all of this at the top of the second hour.
I co-hosted Clout! with Richard Greene Wednesday,

Monday evening Webinar on Eckhart Tolle, opera, Wagner, philosophy and
9/11 Truth with his Month of Truth.
Activist/Musician Eva James is in

the housing bill to help prevent foreclosures.
fmr. Chief Economist, US Dept. of Labor
Morgan Reynolds served in 2001/02 in the Bush Administration. He's
scheduled to join us at the bottom of the first hour to talk about Bush's
sweeping changes to the banking industry, giving the Fed regulatory power

state of the economy. Morgan's a Conservative Professor Emeritus at Texas

A NY Times article last week quotes Pennsylvania officials as saying grant
applications are up to 166,000 SO FAR this year, up from 133,000 the past
2 years. Many states are asking Congress for an additional $1billion supplement
to the program. Interesting how in the recent PA Primary campaign we heard
all about pastors, lapel pins, and "bitter" comments but not
a word about this until AFTER the voting. Makes you wonder about the agenda
of the MSM. Oh...after 2 1/2 decades (Reagan's 1980's) Americans have
emptied their savings, used credit to maintain their lifestyles to almost
20% of their income according to the Federal Reserve, and are now running
out of money to purchase the goods that drive our economy.
Congressional Candidate Byron DeLear is a Progressive Democrat
running for Congress against pro-war Republican Todd Aikin in Missouri's
2nd District. Gore Vidal is hosting a fundraiser in LA Sunday. DeLear
joins us in the second hour to talk about the state of our country and

What better argument do the Mullah's need to justify their obtaining a
nuclear "deterrent" than that the only nation that has ever
used nuclear weapons now threatens the people of Iran with extermination.
Can we really stand 4 or 8 more years of this same old foreign policy?
Oh...George W. Bush appoints the maleable General Petraeus as commander
of US forces in the Middle East, replacing Admiral Fallon who was the
only commander to oppose an attack on Iran. Jenna Bush might support the

The global run on food that has led to shotages

Charlie Gibson, Stephanopolis, and ABC get the
Rove/Bush gameplan right with the lapel pins, gossip, trivia, and big
visuals of Articles of the Constitution as backdrops. Hillary claims it
was a game changer, although a Zogby/Newsmax poll taken during the "debate"
shows PA even at 45% - 44% for Clinton. George even used Sean Hannity's
talking points!! It would really be nice to hear about jobs, Iraq, health
care, trade agreements, and was that Hillary outBushing Bush on militarism
against Iran??!!?? She said she will use US troops against any attack
in the Middle East!! A new WaPost poll shows only 38% of Americans think
Hillary's honest and trustworthy. How can she possibly win?
Ahhnuld's budget proposal to cut higher
education by 10% would deny education to tens of thousands of qualified
students and have a devastating long-term effect on the state's economy
according to college and university leaders. What kind of society do we
want for our kids?
We talk a lot about US militarism directed against
Russia and China and author Mike Moore joins us in the third hour
to talk about how we're heading for another Cold War. He says in his new
book, "Twilight War," that it will be with China and the battleground
will be space. This also happens to be the scenario laid out in Project
for the New American Century's "Rebuilding America's Defenses."

The Bush Administration pushes for the most sweeping banking

secured NATO's support Thursday to build a missile defense system in eastern
Europe, despite fierce opposition from Russia, and Bush pushes for making
Georgia and Ukraine NATO members, even though the Ukranian people oppose
it and the Russians hate it. Reverend Lennox Yearwood of the Hip Hop Caucus
delivered 32,000 signatures on a complaint alleging violations of election
finance law against John McCain to the Federal Election Commission. Impeachment
activists will speak at the SB City Council Tuesday.
California's about $16B in the red and

Chairman John Laird. We'll talk about the current budget crisis, how
does it get resolved without gutting our infrastructure, the 2/3 rule
to pass a budget or raise taxes, and the proposed oil tax. The Speaker
and Senate leader both say they will drag out the budget process into
the fall if the Republicans don't compromise on taxes.
Petroleum Geologist Jeffery Brown

can new finds make up for increasing demands, how can net exporters alter

Not a good week for Hillary,
a new NBC/WSJ poll has her positive rating drop to 37% against her 48%
negative rating. How does she get to 50% + 1? The WH Papers showed her
support for NAFTA, even though she won Ohio on opposition to it. Nobody
who has been in combat forgets it, but she expects us to believe she did
with her corkscrew landing, ducking sniper fire, and sitting on flak jackets
in Bosnia. Gov. Bill Richardson endorses Obama and gets compared to Judas,
and now Clinton's wealthy backers are threatening Nancy Pelosi for saying
the Super Delegates should not overturn the VOTE of the people. Haven't
we had enough of this for the past 7 years?

Iran, Impeachment, and what we can do about it.

Kind of a big news week.
Two huge resignations, and we'll talk about the one most people aren't,
Commander of our Middle East forces, Admiral Fallon. The CENTCOM commander
was the only one to challenge the White House on the policy of keeping
the "option" of an unprovoked attack on Iran. Certainly no dove,
Fallon has said we don't have the forces to attack Iran, but rather, we
should refocus on Afghanistan. We're spread too thin. We'll look at ship
fuel deliveries to the Gulf and much more.
Another popular Democratic Governor Elliot
Spitzer, like Alabama Governor Don Siegelman, was also brought down. Under
his leadership, Democrats were increasingly confident of breaking a logjam
in Albany by wresting the state senate from the Republicans, who viewed
Spitzer as a mortal threat. While not condoning his actions, why does
he have to resign, but Republican Senators David Vitter and Larry Craig
don't? Why is the FBI and IRS investigating a relatively small (a few
thousand $) prostitution case. Why did Mike Bloomberg start talking about
running for Governor, and give $500,000 to Joe Bruno? And what about the
Telecoms and wiretaps? At least we found the bar for Impeachment.
Obama wins Mississippi as the Democratic
soap opera continues, and we'll talk about that. As usual, there's a lot

Rush
Limbaugh puts the Clinton Slime Machine over the top in Texas with an
8% boost and Republicans are mad as Hell that they didn't get to vote
for down-ticket candidates. Hillary sells out the Dem Party and says McCain
is more qualified than Obama, then cozies up to Karl Rove on Fox on Wednesday.
How much different is Clinton from McCain anyway? They both backed Bush
in EVERY war vote. Oh...at 3am do we really want that phone in the White
House to go to voicemail after 6 rings?
Why is Hillary scared to release her tax
returns? Is there something like her 10,000% cattle futures profit or
could she be worried about this: Bill Clinton Endorsed the Kazakhstan
Dictator, won Canadian miner Frank Giustra a $3.1 BILLION uranium mining
deal deal; so Giustra gave Bill $131MIL. Hillary Clinton lent her campaign
at least $5 Million Dollars allegedly out of a joint bank account with
Bill? Are foreign dictators financing her? A leaked memo from the Conservative
Canadian government was key in Ohio. PM Stephen Harper's chief of staff,
Ian Brodie allegedly told CTV News that Obama's NAFTA position was political
posturing, when it was actually Clinton's camp that told them to take
her NAFTA concerns with "a grain of salt."
Defense Contractor United Technologies
is trying to buy Diebold, the second largest voting machine company before
the election. Top McCain strategist Charles Black is the lobbyist for
UT and his boss is Mark Penn, Clinton's top srategist. McCain and Clinton
are even owned by the same Lobbying Corporation. Maybe a McCain/Clinton
ticket and set the Dems free??
Legislative Democrats in Sacramento are
threatening to hold up the state budget until fall unless Republicans
agree to raise some taxes in addition to slashing public services. They
need to stand up with a backbone for California. It would also be nice
to see a ballot initiative to cut the 2/3 majority to pass a budget and
raise taxes to 55%. With all of the talk about reforming government, that
would actually do it.

Hats off to Prince Harry and for
going to Afghanistan to fight in the front lines. Still no Bush daughters,
nieces or nephews fighting George's War.
Americans' confidence in the economy is
withering amid a toxic combination of surging food and energy costs and
falling home values. The government on Tuesday said its main measure of
inflation at the wholesale level jumped 1% in January, lifting the 12-month
increase to 7.4%, the highest rate in 26 years. The ascent last month
was fed by a 1.5% rise in energy prices and a 1.7% leap in food costs.
Bush, McCain, and Clinton now are united
in attacking Obama's lack of experience in foreign relations. Problem
is, Bush, McCain, and Clinton all get it wrong on everything from Iraq,
to the Kyl/Lieberman Amendment which gives Bush a back door to attack
Iran, the Levin amendment, and did Clinton say in the debate that she
will defend Kosovo's independence? Would she stand against Russia and
China in a military confrontation over it? Obama is the only one who got
Iraq right and says we need to change the mindset that led us to war.
Congressional Candidate Byron de Lear

California's budget defecit
has grown from $14.5 BILLION to $16 BILLION in the past few weeks and
Ahhhnuld's proposal to slash it is so bad that the non-partisan Legislative
Analyst Elizabeth Hill has taken the rare step of having her office draw
up an alternative plan for lawmakers to consider. She says we need to
raise some taxes, like on oil companies, and cut some tax credits, including
the "sloophole" that allows yacht buyers to avoid paying sales
tax. Ahhhnuld and his Republicans would rather gut public education and
force poor people to expensive emergency rooms for primary care once they
get really sick.
Another week, another primary and caucus.
The good news for Clinton is she had her closest defeat since Super Tuesday,
the bad news she only lost by 17 points and garnered only 41% of the vote.
This after trailing in Wisconsin by 4-7 points a week ago. Obama has cut
her Ohio lead in half in the last week, and pulled even in Texas. Hillary's
latest slogan: "One of us is ready to be commander in chief in a
dangerous world..." has only one flaw: she ALWAYS gets it wrong.
She has never voted against going to or expanding a war. Obama says "We
not only have to end a war...we need to change the mindset that got us
to war." He gets it, she doesn't. As to the Supreme Court, that's
the price the Party Bigwigs pay if they steal the nomination for Clinton.
Interesting development with the NY Times
story about McCain and his lobbyist lady friend. We'll see if anything
comes of it, but the real issue is that she's a Telecom lobbyist who was
lobbying before McCain's Senate Committee. As he did in the Keating 5
Scandal, McCain wrote letters to government regulators on behalf of Vicki
Iseman's lobbying clients. It's another short show this week.

I have criticized both Obama
and Clinton for timidity on controversial votes on Iraq and Terrorism.
They had another chance this week on the vote to grant retroactive immunity
to the Telecoms who have been spying on Americans dating back to FEBRUARY
2001. Obama finally got it right, while Clinton stood with George Bush
and against the Constitution and the American People and didn't even bother
to vote. The bill extended the spying program for 6 YEARS!! Fortunately
the House went into recess rather than go along. Even Rahm Emmanuel's
brother Ari is writing in the Huffington Post that he doesn't trust the
Superdelegates to follow the will of the people and vote for the winner
of the ELECTED delegates. I think that would rip the Democratic Party
apart like 1968. If that happens I'll write in Buck Schultz (Ed's dog)
or Higgins Hartmann (Thom's cat) in Nov. Venezuela's retaliating against
Exxon/Mobil's having frozen some of their assets by refusing to sell them
more crude, and we may take a comic break with Roger Clemens in our short
show this week.
Progressive Democrat Donna Edwards took
out 8 term Congressman Al Wynn in Tuesday's Democratic Primary in Maryland
with 60% of the vote. PDA Diector Tim Carpenter joins us at the
bottom of the hour to talk about this, the turnout of first time voters,
and the Obama effect, among many other things. PDA is also endorsing 24th
District Congressional candidate Mary Pallant.

Super Tuesday has come and
gone and Clinton and Obama are virtually dead even in delagates. With
all the identity politics, I'm looking at the red/blue aspect of it. Clinton
seems to be winning mostly blue states, but Obama is winning by huge margins
in red states. McCain will probably be the Republican
nominee, and we're probably going to the Convention.
On the Iraq front, Adm. Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
says our military is being worn thin by operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, the Mahdi Army of Muqtada al-Sadr is being asked by Shia to
end their six month cease-fire and take up arms again.
Congresswoman Lois Capps joins us

It's almost time to vote in
California, and we'll talk about the Dem race a lot. Obama gets endorsed
by The Kennedys, Ted, Patrick, and a powerful ad from Caroline Kennedy
featuring her father, "...passing the torch to a new generation of
Americans." The Bush Administration is pushing for new sanctions
against Iran ahead of the next IAEA Report due in March which will say
Iran is fully cooperating and there is no evidence of nuclear military
activity. Two interesting articles in the LA Times about a resumption
of the Cold War, and we'll talk about that. We'll also have an update
from the 2006 SOU and those pesky Human-Animal Hybrids from Advanced Cell
Technology's hybrid ManCow.
It's time for the 5th Annual Brazilian
Carnaval in Santa Barbara and my photo of Paola the Samba dancer is
on the poster all over town. We'll be joined at the bottom of the first
hour by MC Sandra dos Anjos Domingos to talk about the local Carnaval
and the different Carnavals in the different areas of Brasil. Sandra has
just returned from backpacking around Brasil, and I still have stories
to tell.
Buzzflash.com's Mark Karlin joins
us at the top of the second hour to talk about the Super Tuesday primaries
happening this week. We'll talk about the key demographic groups to watch
for Obama and Clinton, and what happens if we don't have a candidate after
the dust settles.
At the bottom of the hour we'll be joined
by Isabella, who I met Friday night at a Brazillian Carnaval press event.
Isabella works for the Organization of Permaculture and Arts in Salvador,
Bahia. She works with orphan children who live on the streets of the
Pelourinho who have no family and are left on their own to survive however
they can. It was something that moved me as much as anything I saw in
Brasil. There was Carlos in Maceio, who I almost wanted to adopt after
talking with him, and feeling the frustration and hopelessness, and the
kid who sold me a medallion for my friend Elvianne in the Pelourhino,
then bummed a beer. This interview was totally spontaneous, because Isabella's
work is truly the work of God.
In the third hour we'll be joined by Community
Planet Foundation's Jack Reed to talk about sustainability of the
planet through interconnected communities based on consensus decision

an interesting concept, but can we do it, and do we really want to? We'll
see.

Obama says the Republicans
drove the ideas of the 1990's but "it took a President" to put
them into place and that President was Bill Clinton. We all know Bill
Clinton would never tell a lie, but we will look at the records: NAFTA,
GATT, Telecommunications Act of 1996, Welfare Reform, perpetual war, Republican
takeover of both houses of Congress for the first time in 40 years. Republican
policies that took President Clinton to implement.
Sens. Ted Kennedy, Pat Leahy, and Claire
McCaskill are telling Bill to back off with the smears and he's telling
them to stick it. Hillary's new ads are appealing directly to Black voters
while surrogates are inserting race into the campaign with Bob Johnson,
who Bill made a billion dollars for, referring to what teenage Barack
did "in the Hood," and NY Atty. Gen. Andrew Cuomo saying Obama
can't "shuck and jive" through press conferences. Obama has
lost half of his white support in SC in the past week. Will Blacks back
Hillary in the fall if she's nominated?
It's the SB Film Festival and we have the
cast of "Fix" for the bottom of the first hour for an
absolutely chaotic and entertaining segment, and Alan Park who
made "Scene & Heard: A Musical History of Isla Vista, CA",
which I was interviewed for, at the top of the second hour.
Congressional Candidate Mary Pallant
is running to challenge Elton Gallegely. She's in at the bottom of the
second hour to talk about what she would do f elected. We may also talk
about the events she puts on in Ventura County with speakers like Joe
Wilson and Valerie Plame, and Thom Hartman among others.
Author/Journalist Dave Lindorff
joins us for the third hour for a wide ranging discussion including the
NH Primary and his vision of the future of the Democratic Party. We'll
talk about the recent and ongoing threats against Iran, the crashing economy,
and a new study that finds that the US government is literally scaring
Americans to death with the War on Terror hype!!! I'm sure Impeachment
will also come up.

9/11 Author / Researcher David Ray Griffin
joins us for the second hour. We'll talk about 9/11 Rudy and what he really
contributed. I'm sure this will lead to WTC Building 7, Rudy's Command
Center, a lot of gold, and much more. His office was also responsible
for the recycling of the steel (destruction of evidence) to prevent a
study of WHY the buildings fell.
In one of the absolute WORST of local government
dealings, the SB Harbor Commission confiscated the slip and boat
of 75 year old Marci Berman on a 3-2 vote. Marci and her attorney
Douglas Gillies join us in the third hour. After a payment is late
by 60 days the city can confiscate. She missed her July 15 payment, paid
on August 15, had her slip confiscated Sept 7, with no due process, and
paid a double payment on Sept. 15. The City returned that payment and
said it was too late. They then sent her a $9000 bill for her boat. Oh...one
of the 3 in the 3-2 decision, Commissioner Ken Owen, is serving his 4th
consecutive term in violation of voter approved term limits. This may
be just getting started.

A short show this week
but there's SO much to talk about. Kucinich is asking for a (re)count
in New Hampshire. Results differed wildly from EXIT polls for one candidate
only. Counties counted by Diebold gave Clinton a 7% boost. Paper ballots
only matter IF they're counted, and not by a private corporation's scanners.
Iran supposedly confronted US warships
in the Gulf of Hormuz with swarming speedboats. Iran says the tape was
fabricated, and the Bush Administration now concedes that the audio portion
didn't actually come from the speedboats. Meanwhile, Russia is hinting
that it is dispatching S-300 medium range SAM missles to Tehran.
Closer to home Ahhnuld wants to close schools,
beaches, parks, prisons, and more rather than raise taxes to close his
$14B budget defecit. These Republicans are like trained chimps with tax
increases vs. public services.

Obama wins the Hawkeye Cauci
and Edwards finishes second. Oil hits $100 a barrel as domestic issues
eclipse the Iraq Occupation for voters. All three top Dem candidates say
they will make a top priority of "fixing" NAFTA, while Mexican
farmers protest as the last tariffs on US farm imports are lifted. NAFTA
is great for the corporations and nobody else.
Speaking of election rigging, BradBlog.com's
Election Pitbull Brad Friedman joins us in the second hour to talk
about the status of our election process. There's news about paper ballot
voting in Ohio and Colorado. We'll check up on what's happening in California,
Florida, and Brad's take on the resurrected bill by Rush Holt. We'll talk
about the caucus process in Iowa, Republican caging in Kansas, other GOP
voter suppression tactics, and Kenya's contested election.
US casualties hit record high in Afghanistan
for 2007. More unrest in Pakistan as Musharraf invites Scotland Yard to
investigate the Bhutto assassination. The day she was killed, Bhutto had
planned to reveal evidence that the Pakistan intelligence agencies were
planning to rig the upcoming election, and top surviving rival, Nawaz
Sharif calls on Musharraf to step down immediately.

No bigger story this year
than the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. We'll know more by Saturday,
but what we know now is that President Pervez Musharraf's main opposition
is dead, Pakistan Muslim League's leader Nawaz Sharif is calling for a
boycott of the January 8 election, Bhutto wrote a letter in October to
be read only if she was killed where she said Musharraf would be responsible,
there was only one exit from where she was speaking, and the assassin
managed to get an automatic rifle right next to her, where he shot her
and blew himself and several others up. Who is responsible, Muslim extremists,
of course, according to Musharraf, Bush, and the Republican Presidential
candidates. Who has more to gain than Musharraf? We'll talk about this,
the Iowa Caucuses, and a lot more.
PDA 's Brad Parker joins us in the
second hour to talk about the creeping, or not so, police state here in
the USA. We'll talk about the Democratic field, Congress and it's representation
of us, and the Progressive movement in general, and how we move the Democratic
back to the left

The Clinton Campaign
gets more bizzarre with Bill saying he and George Bush 41 will tour the
world to repair America's image if Hillary is elected, but Bush says he
won't and he stands by his son's Presidency. The attack machine gets better
with Clinton Surrogate fmr. Sen Bob Kerrey attacking Obama as a Muslim,
even though he is not, then apologizes a couple times, and a new WSJ/NBC
poll shows 8% of Americans thinks it's true. Hardly the case for WMD numbers,
but the Rovian tactics have clearly risen past Kindergarten. Ahhnuld and
Nunez pass a healthcare plan for California that is a boon for the insurance
companies, but it's being challenged by Senate Dems.
The Hill's Pundit Brent Budowsky
handled intelligence issues for Sen. Lloyd Bentsen when the Foreign Intelligence
Surveillance Act was originally passed. He'll join us in the second hour
to talk about the current dueling Senate bills, one giving retroactive
immunity to telecoms. We'll also talk about the destruction of the CIA
torture tapes and the Hawkeye Caucaii where we both think Edwards can
win.
fmr. SB City Council Candidate Frank
Hotchkiss is in for the third hour to talk about the current Council
and the results of the election just past. The City Council this week
became the 68th city in the US to pass a resolution to withdraw troops
from Iraq. We'll talk about that, Immigration, and more.

cost the city of Santa Barbara taxpayers $157.5 million through 2007.
It IS a local issue. SB Mayor Marty Blum joins us at the top of
the first hour to talk about it and why and how it affects Santa Barbara
on a local level.
Gov. Ahhnuld is hiding payments of $1.7 million
in non-profit funds for luxury travel expenses in violation of the state
Political Reform Act and maybe a corruption of the tax code. Assembly
Speaker Fabian Nunez isn't much better with a $1795 meal in Paris, an
$6745 hotel bill in Barcelona, and a $5149 meeting at a Bordeaux wine
shop with campaign funds. All very questionable and probably illegal.
We'll also get to the Iraq funding bill, Iran, and the Democratic and
Republican races and debates.
SB City Councilwoman Iya Falcone
was in New Orleans for a convention of cities. She joins us in the third
hour to talk about this, the recent SB city election, and other issues
affecting the city. We'll definitely get to the Firefighters contract,
the gang problem, and the budget. We may also talk about her future plans,
since she's serving her last term on the Council.

A new NIE says Iran stopped
it's nuclear program in 2003, Bush supposedly knew it, and ramped up the
rhetoric to go to war anyway. These guys are hell-bent on war with Iran
regardless of the facts. Hillary claims that the NIE proves her vote on
Kyl/Lieberman helped changed Iran's behavior, whines about mudslinging
when she's criticized for it, then digs up Obama's KINDERGARTEN writings
to prove he's been running all his life. Not to be outdone, Republican
Mike Huckabee didn't even know about the NIE or what it was. When he takes
heat on a rapist he intervened to have paroled, who then raped and murdered
someone else, he denies it, then blames it on Bill Clinton.
Constitutional lawyer and fmr. SoCal
ACLU President Stephen Rohde joins us for the second hour to give
us his take on the Homegrown Terrorist bill that passed the House and
is now in the Senate. We'll also talk about Impeachment, and Sen. Leahy's
threat to pass criminal Contempt of Congress resolutions aganist Karl
Rove and Josh Bolton.

Wounded vets are being asked by
the Pentagon to repay the bonuses they were paid to enlist to fight in
Iraq and Afghanistan. The US Navy has doubled the supply of jet and ship
fuel to the Persian Gulf for November, suggesting high naval activity,
possibly including a demonstration or attack on Iran, while we blame Tehran
for a Baghdad bombing that killed 13 Iraqis. A new Zogby Poll shows Obama
and Edwards beating each of the major Republican candidiates, while Hillary
loses to each of them. CNN shows, once again that it's much more insidious
than Fox with it's softball Republican debate.
Author Dahr Jamail joins us in the
second hour to talk about his observations as an Unembedded Journalist
in Iraq. We'll discuss the role of private security forces, sectarian
death squads, Iraqi unemployment, and the fallout from the destruction
of Falluja. What do the Iraqis think of us? The Iraqi Parliament voted
overwhelmingly to demand that the UN does NOT renew the charter for us
to continue our presence there. Yeah right...like we care what Iraqis
want. We'll also talk about the Americans treatment of Iraqis in Iraq.
An a-political friend just returned from

resigns and warns of a major terrorist attack in the run-up to the 2008
election. Signature gatherers at UCSB try to trick students into signing
the Giuliani & Co. attempt steal 20 or so Electoral Votes from California.
9/11 researcher/author David Ray Griffin
joins ur for the second hour to debunk the 9/11 debunking. We'll cover
discrepencies of the various timelines, NORAD's response and the Vanity
Fair article revising the reasons why no fighter jets responded. NIST
tries to explain the fall of WTC 7, which wasn't hit by any airplanes,
and we'll discuss the weakness and implausibility of their explanations.
We'll also talk about the Secret Service response, the Pentagon, and United
Flight 93.
Dr. Michael Cooper qualified for
the City Council ballot then decided not to run. He does want to come
on the show to talk about the downtown parking plans and the current City
Council's agenda as he sees it. The Dentist is also a big critic of our

and Impeachment. She was arrested trying to enter Canada to protest the
Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP). We'll probably
talk about that and what it means to us, especially.
Lt. Governor John Garamendi sits
on the UC Board of Regentss of UC and the equivalent board for CSU. He
joins us at the end of the first hour to talk about student fees, privatization,
and the importance of public education.
Interesting Presidential debate tonight.
Kucinich says he will support any Democrat who pledges to end the Occupation
of Iraq. A new poll shows Edwards, Obama, and Clinton deadlocked in Iowa.
All the national polls show Edwards with the biggest lead against each
of the Republicans, but the media doesn't report that. We'll talk about
it.
Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) says the US has
become a haven for War Criminals. The tab for the war could cost us $3.5
TRILLION if "hidden costs" like care for wounded soldiers, interest
on the borrowed money, and higher oil prices are included, and the California
deficit has grown to $10 BILLION with Governor Cut-Up-The-Credit-Cards.

other issues like Naples and the Gaviota Coast, so you can call and talk
about any of that.
Bush wants more funding for his Iraq War
and vetoes funding for Infrastructure Legislation. Congresswoman Lois
Capps joins us in the second hour to talk about this, Impeachment,
legislation to support small business, protect against workplace discrimination,
and last week's field hearing on the National Marine Sanctuary Program..
China announces it will move some of it's
dollar reserves to more stable currencies like Euros and the CANADIAN
dollar??!!?? Gold skyrockets and the stock market falls, but bad news
is not bad for everyone. We'll talk about Dick Cheney's investment portfolio.
Kucinich introduces a Priviliged Resolution to Impeach the Veep but it's
sent back to the Judiciary Committee. Musharraf declares Martial Law in
nuclear armed Pakistan and we announce targets to bomb inside Iran. We

Until 2005 multimillionaires

Billion. The economy's doing great for a few folks. Cheney says the US
won't let Iran "go nuclear" and we accuse them "directing
missions in Iraq." The run-up to the Iran War is the same as the
Iraq War and we buy it. Sen. Chris Dodd calls for new leadership in the
Senate, and Verizon and AT&T give over $42,000 to Sen. Jay Rockerfeller
to buy legal immunity for participating in the NSA spying scandal thet
was up and running BRFORE Sept. 11. Oh...9/11 Rudy's top CA fundraiseer

electoral votes.
AfterDowningStreet.org's David Swanson
calls in from a Peace March he's speaking at in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
He will be speaking here Nov. 2 at the Impeach Bush/Cheney Meetup and
we'll talk about the country-wide marches and impeachment. Anyone with
knowledge of commission of a felony and not reporting it is guilty under
Federal Law of Misprision of Felony. I wonder how many members of Congress
are guilty of THAT!!??!! We'll also talk about Rahm Emmanuel telling Chris
Matthews that getting out of Iraq was only a small part of why we elected
Dems last year. Matthews laughed at him in disbelief and kept pressing
him about it.
California's burning, half of the CA National
Guard and it's equipment is in Iraq, and Lt. Governor John Garamendi
has been all over the media. He'll join us to talk about the fires,
the President's visit, and that awful LNG terminal off of Oxnard that

The Turks mass troops on the Iraqi border

of World War III if Iran gets a nuke, and Putin visits Tehran. Senate
Dems cave on the FISA Act, granting retroactive immunity to telecoms who
helped Bush spy on Americans BEFORE 9/11. Oh...the CEO of Quest refused
to turn over their records and he's sitting in jail. The new Attorney
General nominee Michael Mukasey condemns torture but says waterboarding
is OK. He also says Bush can wiretap Americans without a court order.
The gutless Dems will cower and cave again, Constitution be damned.
PDLA President / Activist Marcy Winograd

and how Progressives can take back our party.

he would join with the Mayor to introduce a resolution to oppose the Iraq
War. We'll find out about the status of that.
The House debates the renewal of the FISA
bill to allow Bush to continue to wiretap Americans. Bush says he will
veto anything that doesn't have retroactive immunity for telecom companies
who turned over their records to the government. Will the Dems cower and
cave? Pelosi says Bush can't do anything to rise to the level of impeachment.
Are they really gutless cowards who are willing to tear up the Constitution,
or are the on the take from the Corporations? Putin weighs in on Iran,
saying they aren't doing anything illegal with their nuclear program,
but that they have to be transparent with it.
The Red Sox advance and Cleveland eliminates
the Yankees. Not much of a week for SB Foresters Manager / LA Angels
Scout Bill Pintard but he'll join us to talk about it. What happens
to the Yankees now? Mark Cuban wants to buy the Cubs and be a Bleacher
Bum, and the Rockies continue to roll.
SB City Council Candidate Michelle Giddens

wants to "balance property rights while maintaining the charm and

The Canadian dollar is now
worth more than the US dollar for the first time in my memory, the price

complaint after it was revealed that backers of Rudy Giuliani were behind
the ballot initiative to give about 22 of California's Electoral Votes
to the Republican. Rudy's foreign policy advisor, Neocon "Godfather"
Norman Podhoretz is also urging Bush to attack Iran. Some interesting
new polls, too.
Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey was the
first to call on Bush to bring our troops home from Iraq, and she is still
one of the 3 or 4 most outspoken members in opposition to the war. We'll
talk about her Bring the Troops Home and Iraq Sovereignty Restoration
Act, the new $190 Billion funding request, and the coming war with Iran.
We'll also find out what Congress REALLY needs to do to end the war.
It's baseball playoff time and we'll take

will join us to break them down. We'll try to do a short segment through

are saying we will be in Iraq for a long time.

it's a sad day for the rule of law, freedom of speech, and the US Constitution.
Senate Democrats roll over under Republican filibusters. make them TALK

might be one of the reasons Congress' approval rating is 11%, significantly
below even CHENEY!!! They've even lost their base!!!
Despite the cowardice of Senate Dems, the
House is passing legislation and Congresswoman Lois Capps joins
us to talk about the Children's Health Insurance Bill, the Dream Act,
Home Ownership Act to address the sub-prime lending crisis, expand home
ownership, predatory lending tactics, and local Green Business Awards.
In the second hour Progressive Democrats
of America Director Tim Carpenter will talk about what has happened

House Office of Political Affairs briefing of the GSA on targets for the
2008 House and Senate races, and the Drug Czar campaigning for Republicans,
even though he's forbidden to, even on his own time. Mimi and I will also
talk about the resignation of LA County Clerk and Registrar Connie McCormack
and it's effect on 4 million or so votes in LA County, and the Democratic
Governor of Alabama. We'll also remember our dear friend and activist
Teddi Winograd.
In the third hour we'll comment on the
SB City Council race that's heating up, Measure A, a couple other local
issues. We'll be joined at the bottom of the hour by Actor/Activist
friend Adam Menken to talk about 9/11, his trip to Pakistan, and Teddi
Winograd.

Impeach
Bush/Cheney Meetup
Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson is one of the
most progressive Mayors in America and is actively working to end the
war in Iraq. He's speaking at the Impeach Bush/Cheney Meetup on Monday
night and will join us and SB Mayor Marty Blum at the top of the
first hour. Mayor Marty is still looking for one SB City Councilmember
to join her to put both of those issues on the agenda. Aside from the
human cost, it has cost the City of SB over $156million. That IS a local
issue. We talked with Councilmember Das Williams about it this week and
we'll see if the Mayor has anything to report. Oh, Das fills in for me
next week.
Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid won our first
Spinless Award last week for selling out the 4th Amendment with the The
Protect America Act of 2007, and now it looks like it was done so the
Senate could go on vacation without Bush making recess appointments. If
their vacation is more important than the Constitution we're in more trouble
than even I thought. After China threatening to sell off their dollar
reserves last week, we agreed to let them put about a 24% tariff on their
imports of our autos, while we put a 2% tariff on theirs. War's great
for testing new toys, and CNN had an interesting piece on machine gun
robots being used in Iraq. Oh..the US wants to name the Iranian Revolutionary
Guard a terrorist organization, the first time in history that a military
of a country has recieved that designation. Lot's more, too.
It's funny how some sports teams win all
the time and others never do. The Santa Barbara Foresters are always
winners and Manager Bill Pintard joins us for the third hour to talk
about baseball. We'll find out how he does it with a different team every
year, what he looks for in players, character, and all that good stuff.
We'll talk about Barry Bonds, maybe the NBA gambling scandal, and probably
his Yankees and my Red Sox.

We'll talk about the Minneapolis bridge collapse in the
larger context of our crumbling infrastructure. According to Anderson
Cooper it will cost us $460 Billion to make our bridges safe and the House
just passed a approved a $460 Billion Defense bill...oh...that doesn't
include the $451 Billion for the war in Iraq. Sure glad we've got our
priorities straight. China's threatening to to sell it's $900 Billion
US Treasury bonds which could collapse the dollar. Feeling safe under
Republican rule? Congressional Dems passed a bill to gut the FISA law
and authorize Alberto Gonzales to tap anyone's phone he deems fit. It
does have a condition that one of the calls has to be outside the country,
and we know this crowd wouldn't disobey the law. Instead of impeachment,
these clowns simply legalize the crimes.
In the second hour Ohio voting rights activists
Bob Fitrakis and Harvey Wasserman join the growing list of people
who don't think the Bush Administration will relinquish power willingly.
If they can't steal the election what else would they resort to? The Republicans
are trying to rig California's Electoral College vote with a ballot innitiative
to divide our 55 votes by Congressional District. The districts are gerrymandered
so badly that they can be assured at least 20 votes, which means the Dem
will need to win Ohio AND Florida, instead of just one. We will also probably
talk about the Russian pipeline deal giving Russia control over European
energy.

Saturday July 28, 2007
Cindy Sheehan, David Swanson and others are arrested by
John Conyers after meeting with him to urge him to defend the Constitution
and the rule of law by starting impeachment proceedings. Conyers said
it will have to be resolved through the electoral process, Constitution
be damned, but as he has so well documented, our elections are rigged
and this Congress hasn't fixed it or anything else. Democrats were elected
in November to end the Iraq War and hold Bush accountable. They don't
have to do anything. Just let the money run out Oct. 1. The war is escalating
and the Administration is claiming more power than Julius Caesar according
to Conservative scholar Bruce Fein who drew impeachment articles against
Clinton. They pass a law prohibiting permanent bases in Iraq while AP
reports that Balad Air Base is being "...reinforced-for five to seven
years more hard use." Col. Dave Reynolds says "We'd like to
get it to be a field like Langley..." the showcase base in Virginia.
The Congress' approval rating has dropped from around 50% a couple months
ago to around 25% now as they completely abandon their base and well over
60% of the American people.
One of my favorite vacation destinations
is the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland. We'll be joined
in the second hour by Artistic Director Libby Appel. We'll talk
about her plays, Ashland, and more.
The Bush Administration has issued a series
of Executive Orders over the past few months that give the President and
others the power to confiscate anybody's property they deem to be a risk
to security and reconstruction in Iraq, in addition to seizing the powers
of a dictator in the event of a terrorist attack. They are refusing to
show Continuity of Government plans to Homeland Security Committee member
Rep. Peter deFazio (D-OR). fmr Bush Administration Official
Morgan
Reynolds joins us at the bottom of the second hour to talk about
this, his suit against the NIST in conjunction with 9/11, the Russian
pipeline deal, and the overall mission of US Foreign Policy in the Middle
East, and who knows what else.

Another gang killing in SB. Mayor Marty Blum steps
in for a couple minutes and stays for the entire hour. Among our wide
ranging discussion sh admits to hitting her sister over the head with
a croquet mallet. I admit to a few things, too.
The new National Intelligence Estimate
says Iraq has strengthened al Qaeda and weakened our ability to respond
to military threats around the world. Brent Budowksy joins us in
the second hour to talk about this and how the Republican Party is keeping
it going and how far they will let it go. We may even talk about talk
radio, the new media, and what we can to penetrate the propaganda.
A new CBS/NY Times poll shows that 61% of
Americans think Congress should cut off funds for the Iraq War ONLY if
there's a timeline for withdrawl. Will the Dems dare to stand with 61%
of the Americans? They refuse to stand up and defend the Constitution
and the Rule of Law against this lawless Administration through the Constitutional
remedy of Impeachment, so why would they dare to stand with the American
People? Oh...Bruce Fein, the Conservative who drew up Articles of Impeachment
against Clinton, says Bush and Cheney haved claimed more power than either
King George III or Julius Caesar, that they have put the life of the Republic
in danger and need to be impeached NOW. Russia pulls out of the Conventional
Forces in Europe Treaty in response to Bush's "Missle Shield"
in Eastern Europe. A new Executive Order permits Bush to seize the assets
of anyone the President deems to be a threat to satblization efforts in
Iraq, whatever that means.

Bush Administration as WH Political Director Sara Taylor refuses to talk
to Congress about the US Attorney scandal and then Harriet Miers is ordered
to not appear. California will grow in population from 34 million to 60
million by 2050. We'll talk about this, illegal immigration, and maybe
gun control.
Congresswoman Lois Capps voted once
again to withdraw troops from Iraq. We'll about this, the President's
assesment report on Iraq, impeachment, offshore oil drilling, college
aid, and Rush Holt's election "reform" bill, among other things.
PDSB Activist Emily Allen joins
us for the third hour to talk about the politics of homelessness. We'll
talk about the Mental Health Services Act, affordable housing, budget
cuts, jail and hospital "dumping," and more.

IMPEACHMENT SATURDAY!!!!! Everyone on the show is an activist,
or at least a supporter of Impeachment in a week where Bush commutes Scooter's
sentence and effectively buys his silence. Ambassador Joe Wilson says
there was a quid pro quo and so do I. A News Press column by Travis Armstrong
accuses Mayor Marty Blum of taking trips on taxpayer dollars. Da
Mayor will step across the hall after her show to give her version.
fmr. Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg spoke
at the opening of the first National Impeachment Center in LA on July
4. We'll ask her about that, but the main reason she's on is to talk about
the Prison/Military/Industrial Complex and how AB 900 spends millions
of our taxpayer dollars on that system with no new beds. What are alternatives
to expanding the prison system while cutting education, among other things.
fmr. Federal Prosecutor Elizabeth de la
Vega joins us to talk about the Libby commutation, what it means to
the Fitzgerald investigation, and does THIS rise to an impeachable offense.
It will be interesting to get her take on the legal aspects of it, like
the question of Obstruction of Justice, among other things.
AfterDowningStreet.org's David Swanson
is one of the leading activists for impeachment. We'll talk with him about
Kucinich's Resolution of Impeachment in the House, the declining popularity
of Congress, and the political aspects of impeachment. I'm sure Gonzales
will come up once or twice too.
SB City Councilman Brian Barnwell is
the only City Council member aside from the Mayor to voice support impeachment.
He's in for the third hour to talk about that, upper State Street, youth
violence and what we can do about it. He's also attacked seemingly at
random by the SBNP so that will probably come up, along with baseball,
and anything YOU want to call about.

dead for now. A new report discusses the structural imbalance of political
talk radio, and so will we. Oh...yes, I had a great vacation with nature
and Shakespeare in Ashland.
Assembly Budget Committee Chairman John
Laird is scheduled to join us in the first hour if the Assembly is
not in session discussing the budget. The deadline is near and there's
hardly a word about it in the media. Maybe it's only news when it's late.
Norman Solomon joins us in the second
hour to talk about Iraq, war in general, and media complicity in it. His
new DVD "War Made Easy" is screening July 12 at the Faulkner
Gallery for free and we'll talk about that and take your calls.
Former City Councilman Babatunde Foleymi

the debates and some campaign gossip. AlsoParis Hilton and mental health.
Congressional Candidate Peter Mathews
is running in the special election to replace Juanita Millender-McDonald
in CA-37, Long Beach, Compton, Watts area. Race is an overt issue in the
contest. We'll talk about that and real issues that Mathews will address
if elected.
Harvey Wasserman joins us in the
second hour to talk about "Solartopia" his new book about an
achievable vision of a sustainable future. We'll talk about "Windiana",
the Great Plains, and energy self-sufficiency. We'll also talk about wind
power as a $ investment and other green technology and how it can be a
new source of good jobs for Americans.
Brett Kimberlin has a new song, "Springtime,
Bush Is Over" based on John Lennon's "And So This Is Christmas."
We talk about this, "pro-life" George Bush and the death penalty,
and the music now as opposed to during the Vietnam War.

over the objections of Russia, China, Qatar, and others to set up a Lebanon
tribunal under Chapter 7 which can be enforced militarily. More blather
from Wendy, and we'll finally get to immigration.
SB City Councilman Das Williams
announced his candidacy for re-election this week. He joins us in the
SECOND hour. We'll talk about gang violence, youth apprenticeship programs,
and other solutions. The City is conducting it's own elections for the
first time this year, and we'll talk about that, much more, and take your
calls.
Hannah Beth Jackson is in for the
THIRD hour to talk about California issues. Among other things we'll hit
the Supreme Court and the future of abortion rights. Ahhnuld is proposing
the privatization the lottery among other things. Assembly Speaker Fabian
Nunez is supporting taking reapportionment away from the legislature.
Ahhnuld's appointing cronys to state boards, giving big raises to state

Arab World's leading journalists. His new book, "Inside Hamas"
fundamentally changed my view of the Palestinian / Israeli conflict. He'll
join us in the first hour to talk about the roots of the conflict, the
strategy of the foundation and growth of Hamas to it's "stunning"
2006 electoral victory, taking control of the Palestinian Parliament.
We'll look inside the mind of a mother of three suicide bombers among
others.
Our friend Irwin Appel joins us
for the last 10 minutes to talk about his new play at UCSB and Oregon
Shakespeare Festival, Ashland.
Monica Goodling admitted that Rove protegee/US
AttorneyTim Griffin rigged the 2004 election by "caging." It's
a felony and also puts Kyle Sampson in a bad position since he denied
she told him about in his sworn testimony. Funny, therre's been no coverage
of it in our media and no follow-up in Conressional hearings. The Dems
cave on Iraq funding but Lois Capps stood with 63% of the American people
supporting a timeline and voted against it. John Edwards opposed the bill
along with Sen.Chris Dodd, and Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama showed
THEIR leadership qualities by waiting until AFTER the bill passed to vote
against it.
Political Comedian / Syndicated Columnist
Argus Hamilton joins us in the second hour to impart his wit and wisdom
about a wide range of topics across the political landscape. His daily
humor column appears in over 100 newspapers and on the web.
Former SB News Press staffer Scott
Hadly was one of the first to leave the paper in July, 2006. He'll
join us in the third hour to step back from the circus surrounding SBNP
and we'll look at the wall between journalism and editorial that started
all this. We'll talk mostly about the future of news in Santa Barbara,
and newspapers in general.

These Republican debates are
great. I can't say as I've ever seen them tripping over themselves like
this. One new fact that came to me from it was that we spend $400 BILLION
a year to service our debt. Ahhnuld released his new budget revision and
he wants to balance it on the backs of those who can least afford it.
The Governor of Oregon is living on the $3 a day food stamp recipients
get. Assemblywoman Sally Lieber has challenged Schwartzenegger to do that,
but the Governator has $25,000 dinners at home instead. For the rest of
us, food prices have risen 5.7% this year, the highest in years, to go
with our $3.50 gas.
We had a late plane and a communication mixup
withZaki Chehab and he'll join us next week. Zaki is one
of the Arab World's leading journalists. His new book, "Inside Hamas"
fundamentally changed my view of the Palestinian / Israeli conflict. He'll
join us in the second hour to talk about the roots of the conflict, the
strategy of the foundation and growth of Hamas to it's "stunning"
2006 electoral victory, taking control of the Palestinian Parliament.
We'll look inside the mind of a mother of three suicide bombers among
others.
Speaking of electoral victories, two top
election officials were tried, convicted, and are serving lengthy prison
sentences for rigging the recount in the Dem stronghold of Cuyahoga County
in the 2004 Ohio Presidential race. Dr. Bob Fitrakis, not John
Kerry, was one of the plaintiffs seeking the recount. He'll join us at
the bottom of the second hour and first halk of the third hour to talk
about this and the exporting of our defective voting machines to the rest
of the world. Interestingly enough, they were first tried out in Brasil.
SB City Councilman Roger Horton calls
in with a Measure D update at the bottom of the third hour and listeners

We finally have a friendly
audience! Mayor Marty Blum drops in to say hi after her first show.
Congress has another Iraq funding bill for Iraq as former Generals in
the field take out TV ads saying that Bush is ruining our military and
making us less secure. Oh yeah...Al Quaeda endorsed Bush's Iraq strategy
so they can kill more of our soldiers. Consumer debt reaches a record
level of $2.43 TRILLION, spending stagnates, and Wal-Mart loses money
because people aren't spending money. Ahhnuld wants to privatize the Lottery.
Profits for his cronies is more important than funding education. Where
are our sources of revenue going to come from in 20 years?
Congresswoman Lois Capps joins us
to talk about her week in Congress. We'll talk about election integrity,
the dominance of white male anchors on cable TV, politicization of the
Endangered Species Act, the new Iraq vote, and maybe energy.
Professor David Ray Griffin is one
of the leading 9/11 researchers. A couple weeks ago a listener called
about the Popular Mechanics article, " Debunking 9/11." Griffin's
new book "Debunking 9/11 Debunking" analyzes that. We'll talk
about that, WTC 7, especially, and who is NIST and who do they work for?

More of the same. 100 more troops dead for April in Iraq. More revelations
about Gonzo.
We caught up with Congresswoman Lois
Capps right after she voted on Bush's veto of the Iraq funding bill.
We talk a lot about that, women's health, and impeachment.
Hannah Beth Jackson is in for the
second hour to talk about California issues. Among other things we'll
hit the Supreme Court and the future of abortion rights.Assembly Speaker
Fabian Nunez is supporting taking reapportionment away from the legislature.
Ahhnuld's appointing cronys to state boards, giving big raises to state
officials, and promoting campaign aides to state jobs. We'll also talk
about the state budget defecit, prisons, and maybe the Presidential election
with the frontloading of the primaries and the debates that are starting

Congress granted immunity
to Monica Goodling and issued subpoenas for her and Sara Taylor to testify
about the firing of the US Attorneys. The Committee also is demanding
that Gonzo return to clarify his faulty memory last week? He has admitted
discussing the US Attorneys with Bush. Could that be impeachable? Can
Gonzo be impeached? Congressman Dennis Kucinich introduced Articles of
Impeachment against VP Dick Cheney this week. We'll also talk about the
Iraq funding bill and maybe porn and the News Press.
California spends more on servicing the
debt than it spends on the entire UC System. Now Ahhnuld wants to substantially
raise fees on students at UC and CSU. UCSB Activist Bill Schiebler
will talk about the increases and what it will mean to students and the
effect on society in general of making college more exclusive.
When Clint Curtis worked as a computer
programer, lobbyist Tom Feeney asked him to develop a program that would
enable him to walk into a voting booth and push a combination of buttons
that would entirely flip an election and erase all evidence. Now Feeney
is a Congressman and when Curtis found out that he was really trying to
rig the election, Curtis left the Republican Party to run against him.
Feeney won, but Curtis and his campaign's "Walk for Democracy"
canvassed the district and he'll talk about what he found. Also, we'll
talk about Feeney's ties to Jack Abramoff.

photos and manifesto appropriate? Some of the interviews with students
were absolutely gouhlish, especially Larry King. We'll also talk about
gun control and why Canadians don't murder people with their Glock 9's.
More news about Iraq, Iran, and our forgetful Attorney General.
The Democratic State Convention is next
weekend in San Diego. We'll be joined by Progressive Democrat of LA president
and fmr. Congressional Candidate Marcy Winograd to talk about what
we can do on a state/local level help fix our National Nightmare.
Author Michael Weinstein joins us
at the bottom of the second hour to talk about what he calls an Evangelical
Coup at the US Air Force Academy. We'll talk about "a spiritually
transformed US Military [as] ambassadors for Christ in uniform [and] empowered
by the Holy Spirit." We'll also talk about the special favors granted
to Evangelicals and discrimination against non-Evangelical Cadets.

Bush is BREAKING our military? The White House has "lost" thousands
of emails from their private system. Maybe this will be the thing that
brings this Administration down.
fmr. ACLU President Stephen Rohde
joins us in the second hour to talk about the rights we're losing to the
"War on Terror." We'll talk about those "quaint" Geneva
Conventions, NSA Spying, torture, Habeas Corpus, Military Commissions

The Iranians released the British Marines but we're still holding five
of their diplomats who were captured in January. Ahhnuld
appoints his Dentist and former Chiropractor to head those boards. "Heckuva
job Browine" and hefty pay raises for his campaign workers come to
California. Whistleblower Lt. Eric Shine joins us in the second
hour. We'll talk about war profiteering, privatization, torture and the
real kind of support that we give our soldiers.
We talk with Congresswoman Lois Capps
about the Democratic budget, the rising cost of higher education and it's
cost to our country. Congress has set a timetable for withdrawl from Iraq
that the President says he will veto. We talk about the Supplemental Iraq
funding bill, and the proposed floating LNG terminal off the coast of
Oxnard.

The Russian newspaper RIA

Seymour Hirsch has been warning of this for almost a year. Saudi King
Abdullah who is one of our closest allies in the Gulf region slammed the
"Illigitimate foreign occupation" of Iraq, and the Gulf States
are going to move away from the dollar to deal in other currencies. Joe
Scarborough is calling for ABC to censor / fire Rosie O'Donnell for saying
9/11 was an inside job. Why is it only Right Wing nuts should only be
allowed on TV?
The US Attorney scandal is front and center
this week with Congressional hearings and Monica Goodling invoking the
5th against self-incrimination. Fmr. Federal Prosecutor Elizabeth de

and her book, "The U.S. vs. George W. Bush". Maybe we'll also
get to the Libby Trial if we have time.
The Senate passed teir Iraq funding bill
this week with a withdrawl provision and Bush says he'll veto it. That's

join us in the second hour to talk about that, impeachment, and anything
else that comes to mind.

The correct file for Hour 2 is now
posted with Jeremy Schaill & Michelle Phillips
Can the US Attorney scandal
bring down this White House? It's illegal to call prosecutors to pressure
them to affect the timing of an indictment, like David Iglesias said happened
to him with calls from Rep. Heather Wilson (R-NM) and Sen. Pete Domenici
(R-NM). Did they kill an investigation into corruption on the part of
Rep. Jerry Lewis (R-CA) when they fired Carol Lam? The subpoenas have
been approved, and a showdown appears to be imminent. It was also fun
hearing Rush and Ahhnuld go at it this week.
Private contractors comprise the second
largest army in Iraq. Journalist Jeremy Schaill joins us in the
second hour to talk about Blackwater, the world's largest mercenary army.
Is this the wave of the future, privatizing war? Who are these people,
anyway? They were even providing security in New Orleans after Katrina.
The right wing militia types always talk about foreign troops under the
command of the UN patrolling our streets. Maybe it will really be Private
Armies like Blackwater. Jeremy will also be appearing in SB April 26 at
the IV Theatre.
Actress/Singer Michelle Phillips
is joining a long list of celebrities questioning the official version
of 9/11. The surviving member of the Mamas & Papas joins us to talk
about it. We'll talk a lot about security, how the explosives may have
gotten into the Twin Towers, and who had the opportunity to do it.
Gang violence is about the ONLY political
issue in Santa Barbara at the moment, with the killing at State &
Carillo in the middle of the afternoon last week. Jorge Rodriguez is
a former gang leader who is now a Masters student at USC. He'll join
us in the third hour to talk about his life, the appeal of gangs, and
how he got out. Maybe we'll get some first hand solutions from someone
who's been there.

Hour 3
Saturday March 17, 2007
We'll talk about the 3 I's,
Iraq, Iran and Impeachment. It's the 4th Anniversary of the invasion of
Iraq and the Senate Judiciary Committee is finally issuing subpoenas in
the firing of US Attorneys. Maybe the Administration's crimes will finally
come out. Rep. Dennis Kucinich has an impeachment resolution ready to
go if we attack Iran, but he's now saying it may be the only option to
stop it. UC and CSU raised fees by 7% and 10% this week as Ahhnuld continues
his march to bankrupt California, and you can now have dinner with him
and Maria at their house for a paltry $500,000 campaign donation.
Journalist Jason Leopold of Truthout.org
is a former Wall Street Journal reporter who had an epiphany after 9/11.
He was one of the first to report on the manipulation of the California
energy market as bureau chief for Dow Jones Newswire, was one of the first
to report on the Enron collapse, and a leader in the reporting of the
outing of CIA Agent Valerie Plame Wilson. He'll join us at the top of
the second hour. The second half of the hour is open in case we're really
having fun.
We're dedicated to being your cutting edge
news source for Santa Barbara. In light of the gang fight and murder Wednesday
afternoon on Carrillo & State Street we've changed our 3rd hour to
talk about it with Nancy Davis and Joe Velasco of City @ Peace.
They work with gang members and at risk teens to help them straighten

too. We'll discuss the Libby conviction and timing of the probable pardon.

office calls the dip in revenues a fluke.
In the November elections the biggest winners
were the most progressive candidates like Sen. Jim Webb. Progressive

where we go from here to buld a Progressive majority, the 2008 race across
the country, and maybe the Presidential race.

step in Congressional action on Iraq, and Chrysler announces cuts of another
13,000 jobs.
Brazilian dancer and singer Vanessa
Isaac will join us at the bottom of the first hour to talk about SB's

Brazil's energy self sufficient, too.

The Administration and media keep beating the drum for war
with Iran. We've "captured" Iranian diplomats in Iraq and seem
hell-bent on creating an incident that will force Iran to respond. Bush
submits his new budget that hits the same people and programs as Ahhnuld's,
the poor, students, and seniors. More firings at the SB News Press, this
time even hitting the sports desk.

Bush and the media are beating the drum hard for expanding
the war to Iran. Ahhnuld's giving out $273,000 bonuses to four aides who
doubled as campaign workers. They claim they worked on the campaign only
in their spare time, otherwise it's illegal. Exxon's $39.5 BILLION is
the biggest ever annual profit. I wonder if sky-high gas prices have anything
to do with it.
AfterDowningStreet.org founder David
Swanson was one of the organizers of last week's March on Washington.
Over 500,000 people turned up on the National Mall, but media coverage
was minimal. David joins us in the second hour to talk about this and

Bush out IMMEDIATELY. We'll also talk about Iraq, Iran, Impeachment, Chuck
Hagel, and Dennis Kucinich.

and what new Secretary of State Debra Bowen will mean to our own elections.
We'll talk about FLA 13 where the Republican won by 369 votes after 18.000
votes "disappeared" in the Dem stronghold of Sarasota. Oh...two
Ohio voting officials were CONVICTED of rigging the 2004 Presidential
election in Cuyahoga County, a Dem stronghold of some 600,000 voters.
Kerry "lost" the state by only 118,000 votes.
4th District Supervisor Joni Gray
took all of our State Mandated Housing and put it in her district. Now
she's taking heat for it. Is the North County starting to put the brakes
on development? The State Mandates need to be fixed at the state level,
and we'll resume our efforts to bring the people together to do it. Joni
joins us in the third hour and welcomes your calls. We'll talk about this,

We'll talk about the SOU, and what was NOT said. A new Executive Order
expands Presidential power to interfere in regulation of health, safety,
and environmental protections.

Left Behind. I'm sure we'll talk about Iraq, and what can Congress actually
do to prevent an attack on Iran.

time with the UCSB Daily Nexus. Editor Kaitlin Pike joins us to
talk about the First Ammendment and the responsibility of the newspaper
to accept or reject advertising.

Even
staunch Conservatives like Republican Senators Gordon Smith (R-OR) and
Sam Brownback (R-KS) are breaking with Bush over Iraq. The new Democratic
Congress finished it's First Hundred Hours this week with an impressive
ability to attract Republicans to join in lopsided victories for most
of the agenda. We'll talk about the formerly united Republican front,
why it's splitting, and what it means for 2008.
The Bush Administration seems determined
to widen the war to Iran. We'll talk about the US attack on the Iranian
Consulate in Iraq, the detaining of five diplomats, and what can be done
to stop the escalation into a regional war.

creating chaos in Santa Barbara. The 3rd hour of the July 29, 2006 was
entered into evidence in the NLRB case against the paper BY the News Press.
Rush has been bashing Ahhnuld all week and so will we. We'll talk about
him stripping welfare from the neediest people, his "Health Care"
plan, and REAL government reform in California. Oh...Gov-Cut-Up-The-Credit-Cards
also wants to borrow another $43 BILLION on top of the bonds to balance
the budget. A bill going through the Iraqi Parliament splits up the country's
oil revenues among BP, Shell, Exxon/Mobil, and Ahhnuld's buddies Chevron
for the next 30 years!
In Hour 2 Bush's new Iraq War escalation
strategy comes largely from the Neocon think tank American Enterprise
Institute. Gary Schmitt is their Director of Advanced Strategic Studies
and former Executive Director of Project for the New American Century.
He joins us in the second hour to talk about the escalation and also the
deterioration of the US Armed Forces.
In our Weekly Washington Update with

the new postal reform bill gives him the power to open the mail of any

Bush prepares to send more troops to Iraq against the advice of all of
the generals on the ground...oh...he's replacing them, too.
The Democrats take over Congress and beginning
this week we will have our Weekly Washington Update with Congresswoman
Lois Capps. We'll talk about the "First 100 Hours," ethics
reform, and the new Democratic agenda. This is only the second time in
52 years that the House has changed hands and we'll also talk about the
mechanics of being in the majority as opposed to the minority.
An international delegation of former prisoners,
families of current prisoners, and human-rights activists will march on
Guantanamo in Cuba to demand the closure of the prison there. Code
Pink co-founder Jodi Evans will be there, and she'll join us before

from the front, too. The Euro passed the dollar as the most popular currency
in circulation for the first time this week. We'll also talk about Iran.

Santa Barbara Mayor Marty Blum is
in for the third hour. We'll take a look back on 2006 and forward to 2007.

lead to another entertaining subject.

against Iran.
We're joined by fmr. Federal Prosecutor
Elizabeth de la Vega in the second hour to talk about her hypothetical
indictment of George W. Bush and senior officials of his government for
fraud in taking us to war in Iraq.
Troy Cope is a very politically astute
19 year old student from Univ. of Toronto. He's not real happy with the

Americans say the widening

inheriting a financial mess even without factoring in the "Supplemental
Spending" of the wars. Bush seems on the verge of ordering more troops
to Iraq, but the head of the Army says we are running out of soldiers.
These people are breaking our military and bankrupting our children while
we sit by and watch. We'll probably talk about Impeachment, too.
SB City Councilwoman Iya Falcone
is in for the third hour. She and Rick Feldman are providing free eye
checkups and free glasses to children on Sunday at Rick's SB Eyeglass
Factory. We'll talk about that and much more, including the police presence

amounts and funneling it through various foundations that make it hard
to track.
Assembly Budget Committee Chairman John
Laird introduced two important bills this week. One provides universl
health care coverage for children, the other is the Civil Rights Act of
2007. We'll talk about these, the state budget, and more.

is leading a rally for impeachment and against the Iraq War in de la Guerra
Plaza Sunday at noon. He'll join us to talk about war, peace, and impeachment.

into the race. We'll also talk more about the Mexican Election and maybe
the myth of the "Liberal Media."
fmr. Chief UN Weapons Inspector Scott
Ritter is back from a fact finding mission to Iran. He'll join us
for the entire second hour to talk about their nuclear program and why
he still thinks we're still going to attack that country.

The Dems want to repeal the tax breaks for Big Oil.
Brent Budowsky is a member of the
International Advisory Council of the Intelligence Summit and former Legislative
Assistant to Sen. Lloyd Bentsen (D-TX). He posted "A Message From

President Bill Clinton, Sidney Blumenthal joins us in the second hour
to talk about radical rule of Bush, what to look for in the next two years,
and maybe the race for '08.

tossed from the News Press Lifetime Achievement Awards Dinner even though
he bought a ticket. He joins us along with Union Rep Marty Keegan
in the third hour to update us on the goings on at the News Press. We
also talk about consolidation of the media in general and radio now that
CBS and Clear Channel are both pulling out of small markets. We don't
have a crystal ball, but we do have thoughts.

So much for working across
the aisle and listening to the voice of the people: the Administration
says the Congress should approve the Bolton nomination to show bi-partisanship
and then resubmits the nominations of some of his most controversial judges.
More tough talk on Iran, and we'll talk about the new Congress, Impeachment
or creating a new agenda to fix some of the things that are broken.
"It's Christmas Snoopy! on Ice"
and we'll talk to local resident Jill Schulz about her father, Peanuts
creator Charles Schulz and the traditions of his holiday ice shows, which
now comes to Santa Barbara Dec. 1 & 2 at the Arlington.
Lisa Pease joins us in the second hour
to talk about the Assassination of President Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963,
and the effects on us today of this and the rest of the political assassinations,
stolen elections, and maybe a couple of plane crashes (Sens. Wellstone
and Carnahan) that changed the balance of the Senate to the Republicans.
Are we really getting the government we want and vote for, or has our
democracy been stolen from us? If so, by whom? The
Goleta School Board seems to be the new stepping stone to power
on the South Coast :) and we'll talk to member Dean Nevins. Hell,
what does the school board do anyway, and why do we even need one??? We'll
find out about this, some serious educational stuff and there will also
be a special surprise!

We caught up with Congresswoman Lois
Capps and she tells us what to expect from the new Democratic Congress.
That conversation is in the first hour.
Even though we won, it took the biggest
turnout in history for a mid-term election to counter the voting mess.
There were numerous problems in Cleveland, Orange County, and there's
an FBI investigion into voter intimidation in Virginia. We'll be joined
by
BradBlog.com's Brad Friedman

democracy and make sure our votes are counted as cast.
Progressive Democrats of America Executive
Director Tim Carpenter joins us to analyze the election and look ahead
at where we go with the Progressive Agenda.
In the third hour we're joined by Campaign

We talk a lot about National Security
and nuclear secrets posted on the web by the Administration.More
Republican slime as Rep. Don Sherwood (R-PA), accused of abusing his ex-mistress
agreed to pay her about $500,000 in a settlement last year that contained
a powerful incentive for her to keep quiet until after Election Day. Also
two senior aides to National Republican Campaign Committee Chairman Tom
Reynolds reportedly participated in "damage control" conference
calls concerning correspondence between Congressman Mark Foley and a former
congressional page two days before the scandal became public, and earlier
than previously reported.
Despite all the polls, Karl Rove says he
know something we don't, and that Republicans will maintain control of
the House and Senate. Florida Congressional Candidate Clint Curtis,
a former Republican, is running as a Democrat against incumbent Tom Feeney,
the former attorney for Yang Enterprises and the person who Curtis has
been accusing of soliciting Curtis to assist in attempted vote fraud in
the 2000 election. Is this Rove's November surprise?
David Swanson co-founder of the AfterDowningStreet.org
coalition and PDA board member joins us to talk about how the media profits
off the Iraq war and froze out Dennis Kucinich in 2004 to make Howard
Dean the anti-was candidate. The DCCC is at it again in this election
funnelling money to only pro-war Democratic challengers. We'll also talk
about impeachment. In the third hour the
2nd District Supervisor Candidates one last time as candidates.
Dr. Dan Secord is in at the top of the third hour, and Janet
Wolf at the bottom of the hour.

victory, but it's still a week and a half away. Pelosi PLEDGES not to
impeach Bush as the President finds a new term for "Stay the Course,"
or at least won't use the term anymore. No apparent change in policy,
though.
The Quality News Network has interviewed
more than 250 candidates for House, Senate, and gubernatorial seats. We're
joined by their Executive Producer Tony Seton who will talk about
QNN' plans to be the best single source for journalists, bloggers, internet
communication and newsmakers alike. QNN delivers the most comprehensive
election coverage of all the national networks.
We'll talk with California Democratic
Campaign Advisor Bob Mulholland mostly about our hugely important
gubernatorial race. Ahhnuld was in town this week promising everything
we want to hear. He did that before and did nothing for people who work
for a living.
Hannah-Beth Jackson is in for the

Saddam's verdict may be Nov. 5, two days before the election. The SB Independent
endorses...AHHNULD!!!!! What are these people THINKING!!!???!!!! Democrats
never cease to amaze me, how they think Republicans will be nice to them
and include them AFTER the election and get co-opted by them.
Hundreds of thousands of Ohio voters- mostly
urban apartment dwellers (likely black) and students- who are primarily
Democratic- have been purged from the voting roles. Ohio voting rights
activist, attorney, and Gubernatorial candidate Bob Fitrakis is trying
to get an injunction from a federal judge to reinstate all purged voters.
He says, "They aren't challenging voter eligibility in Republican
areas. This is coming from the republican party. They're not targeting
their own base." He'll join us in the second hour.
Iraq Veterans Against the War co-founder
Tim Goodrich tells us about their new PAC, and what they're doing in the
election, especially for Richard Pombo's Congressional seat. We'll also
talk plenty about the what's going on in Iraq.

North Korea claims to test
a nuclear bomb and the Republicans blame Clinton. More people say they
told House Speaker Hastert about the Congressional page sex scandal but
he still denies it and Rush still blames the pages. Now a new book comes
out saying how the White House is mocking the Evangelical Christians behind
their back. Everything SEEMS to be unraveling for the Republicans, but
a lot can happen between now and Nov. 7. We'll also talk about Phil Angelides,
and the state Dems. Irwin Appel talks about his new Timon of Athens.
Gore Vidal is back on the show in
the second hour. We'll get his take on Bush's North Korea policy, perpetual
war, terrorism, and maybe some post WWII US foreign policy history to
explain WHY everyone hates us.
The Mamas and Papas were one of the more
a-political bands to come out of the '60's, but Michelle Phillips
has become very active in her opposition to the Bush Administration and
it's foreign policy. She'll join us at the bottom of the second hour to
talk about it and the difference between the activism in the '60's and
now.
Craig Smith is in for the 3rd hour

You've gotta love Rush defending
an alleged pedophile and blaming the Congressional pages and Democrats
for Republican "Family Values" problems of fmr. Rep. Mark Foley,
(R-Fla). As sick as that is, the worst part so far has to be House Speaker
Dennis Hastert's apparent cover up of it. He even appointed Foley co-Chair
of the Congressional Missing and Exploited Children's Caucus. We may get
to the Naval military buildup in the Persian Gulf too, but I'm sure we'll
talk plenty about that as November approaches. Oh, there's also North
Korea's promised nuclear test...feeling safer???
Robert Greenwald ("Walmart:
The High Cost of Low Price") joins us to talk about his new dvd "Iraq
for Sale: The War Profiteers." There's a screening of it Oct.
13 at Marjorie Luke Theatre, and we'll find out who's stealing BILLIONS
of our tax dollars.
Congresswoman Lois Capps is in at
the top of the second hour. We'll probably talk about health care in general,
PacifiCare in particular, and the upcoming election. Also access to Santa
Rosa Island was blocked by Republicans by attaching it to the Defense
Authorization bill.
Cindy Asner is crazy busy with the
campaign for Prop 89 to limit the influence of Special Interests in state
campaigns. It's modeled on successful systems in Maine and Arizona. The
public funding will SAVE taxpayers money by closing corporate tax loopholes
and raising the corporate tax rate from 8.84% to 9.04%. Most small businesses
would be completely unaffected.
Clean money is a local issue too, and there's
a Forum on it Wed. Oct. 11 at the Faulkner Gallery. SB Mayor Marty
Blum is on that panel, and I'm sure we'll talk about it when she joins
us for the third hour. I think the News Press will come up, along with
a host of other local issues. It's always a good time with Da Mayor.

President Ahmadinejad. The Congress approves torture, and Enron's Andy

on Air America Radio, and MySpace.com among others.
The Santa Barbara News Press newsroom employees

900,000 people protested Mexico's

Seven editors and Barney
Brantingham quit the News Press in protest. North Korea fires a three

war and the intelligence be damned.
Another fishy election, this time in Mexico.
According to BBC Newsnight's Greg Palast, the Bush Administration hired
ChoicePoint Inc. to filch the voter and citizen files of Mexico. These
are the same characters (the Bushes and ChoicePoint) who helped purge
Floridas voter rolls of African-Americans before the 2000 race.
Were the Mexican rolls scrubbed like Florida? And what exactly
was the International Republican Institute, the imperial arm of the GOP,
doing down there? We also remember my dearly beloved Ann Prebys

Closer to home, DA Tom Sneddon's office is being
accused of not hiring black Deputy DA's and there's only one Latino. We
asked his hand picked successor Christie Stanley about it last week, and
if there are any black Deputy DA's now. She said she didn't know, they
don't actively recruit any group, but in her 25 years there they had increased
the number of women by over 30%. It's interesting in light of this that
Sneddon has prosecuted SB County's most preeminent black man, Michael
Jackson, unsuccessfully twice.
Tuesday, June 6 is election day, please
remember to vote. It's also the anniversary of the assassination of Robert
F. Kennedy in 1968 immediately after he claimed victory in the California
Presidential Primary to win the Democratic nomination and become the odds
on favorite to beat Richard Nixon. Fmr. FBI Agent author William Turner
("Assassination of Robert F. Kennedy") shared information

to be "...the best Republican in the Democratic Party", and
Winograd is challenging her on the Iraq War, Patriot Act, and numerous

the seeming collapse of the White House team, Bush's abysmal poll numbers,
and speculation of new indictments. We'll also talk about the new Progressive
Democrats of Santa Barbara chapter.
Dr. James Rolfe is one of, if not,
the only dentist treating people in Afghanistan. That country has been

Candidate Joe Guzzardi joins us in the third hour to discuss county

Security tax revenues will be diverted to private accounts among other
things.

In the 1980's Sam Alito said what he needed to say to get
a job in the Justice Department. This week he said little and conveniently
forgot the rest to get a job on the Supreme Court. Do Democrats have the
spine to filibuster?
MacGregor Eddy faces jail time for
protesting at Vandenberg. Her trial is Jan. 19 in SB. She claims the Iraq
War is illegal under the Nuremberg Principles, and her friends will conduct
a simultaneous trial of the U.S for war crimes. We LIKE to talk about
this, and we will with her.

Laird joins us in the second hour to break down the Governor's new
budget and the effect of his bond proposals on California and future generations.
Measure D is the topic in the third hour
with SB City Councilwoman Iya Falcone. There seem to be forces
at work trying to highlight every little question and conflict in an attempt
to have it go down. Do we want to drive on clogged and broken roads? That's
the question, among other things.

136 Out of Iraq events were Saturday,
so we talk about that. We had the worst mining disaster in years, and
Ariel Sharon is out in Israel. That could effect everything in the Middle
East. Lynnette joins us from Toronto at the bottom of the hour and we
bet a rabid right wing caller spouting Rush's talking points.
Ahhnuld gave his Election Year speech. He wants
to rebuild our roads and schools, and he's NOT raising UC/CSU fees for
ONE year. How is he going to pay for it? A $50 billion or so bond. Governor-Cut-Up-The-Credit
Cards wants to borrow it and let our kids pay it back. We discuss it with
Assemblywoman Sally Lieber,
Assistant Speaker, at the top of the second hour.

this, the climate in Sacramento since the Special Election, and the outlook
for this legislative year at the bottom of the hour

either. We'll finally get to talk about Judge Alito.

really happening there.

of the Iraq War from the get-go. She's scheduled to join us to talk about
that, withdrawl / "enduring bases," and the faulty intelligence
/ regime change leading up to it among other things.
We've spent around $350 billion and over
2100 American lives for elections in Iraq, but CA Republicans are trying
to rig the vote here. Sen. Debra Bowen is running for Secretary
of State and has a petition to urge Ahhnuld's appointed Sec. of State
to thoroughly test Diebold voting machines before certifying them in January.
They have failure rates of up to 20%. Sign her petition here:
http://ga3.org/campaign/diebold_test?rk=F7Sg-yF1MX4OW.
She will also update us on the North Carolina Diebold suit.
The Bush Administration is rattling sabers
at Canada now! Their PM Paul Martin is being told to not run an anti-Bush
campaign to get re-elected. I guess they don't care what ANYONE thinks
of us, but all Americans pay the price for their arrogance. Our friend
Lynnette DuBois joins us for this and discussion of a moral budget, one
of our favorite topics. Granny Bee also checks in.
In the third hour SB City Councilwoman
Iya Falcone has a program to provide free eye check-ups and glasses

Iraq War archetech Paul D.
Wolfowitz, in a speech at the National Press Club, admits that the Downing
Street Memos are true! Bush DID lie. The war is strictly illegal under
International law. The penultimate war crime under the Nuremberg Principles
is starting an unprovoked war of aggression. The British Government recognized
this and discussed it in the Downing Street Minutes and Memos.
KCSB's Elizabeth Robinson is just
back from Tunesia where there are no broadcasting rights, no free press,
no freedom of association. Sounds like fun!!
Congresswoman Lois Capps will talk
about the recent Republican sham vote on Iraq. She's also signed onto
Rep. Lynn Woolsey's genuine attempt to end the war. We'll talk about Depleted
Uranium off the coast, and try to get to the Budget Bill.

Bush says we'll stay in Iraq
until we win (or go bankrupt trying). The Supreme Court is taking up an
abortion issue and Judge Alito outlines a strategy to overturn Roe. If
he's confirmed all he has to do is vote.
Progressive Democrats of America Political
Director Kevin Spidel reports live from the DNC meeting in Phoenix.
He will be at the all-day PDA conference/teach-in on the DNC - what is
it? How does it differ from the DLC? How does PDA influence its agenda?
National Board Chair/Actress Mimi Kennedy will also join us to
help Democrats find a backbone.
We finally do our election post-mortem with
Hannah-Beth Jackson. Ahhnuld appointed his new Chief-of-Staff to
project a more "moderate" image. Susan Kennedy is a Democrat
who supports his agenda. Sounds like Recall Ahhnuld all over again. There's
still the matter of Sec of State Bruce McPherson and the Diebold voting
machines.
Economist Lanny Ebenstein joins us
in the third hour to talk about taxes and economic systems. He's a Libertarian
leaning Republicanand we'll try to win him over

more American jobs,We talk more about the destruction of the
American economy. Also the SBNP smear of Rep. Lois Capps over the Iraq
War.
Dr. Doug Rokke, Dir. US Army Depleted Uranium
Project. The Pentagon admitted that we're using the chemical weapon
White Phosphorous in Iraq. With Depleted Uranium we're actually waging
Nuclear War in Iraq. For what, a lie!
The U.S. has used over 2000 tons of depleted
uranium in Iraq. Dr. Helen Caldicott is one of the world's leading
anti-nuclear activists and we really will broadcast our interview with
her. She says the US is waging a nuclear war without the explosions in
Iraq. She will tell us about Depleted Uranium
Our appointed Sec. of State Bruce McPherson
disbanded the Voting Systems Panel to guard against rigged elections.
They couldn't win by having an $80m Special Election so they try rigging
the election with a voting system with a 20% voting mistake rating. Sen.
Debra Bowen (D-Redondo Beach) is running to be ELECTED Sec. of State.
Assemblyman Paul Koretz is writing
Veteran Protection legislation to protect our National Guard by informing
them of the risks before, and testing them after for the effects of depleted
uranium. He's also an ardent opponent of the Death Penalty.
Former SB resident Jimmy Walker is offering
a $1million reward to anyone who can prove the Twin Towers was NOT a managed
demolition. In other words, if you can prove the official version of 9/11
is true, you win.
