When we lived on Islay St. in Santa Barbara we had this magnificent rose bush that bloomed in the front yard every year. We never fed it, cut it back, hardly even watered it, but it bloomed every year. This is one of several studies of it that I painted on various backgrounds. In this picture I used the complementary red roses against the green background to make the roses pop off the canvas.
