| One of my favorite of the San Francisco bands was Moby Grape. Their first
album was an all time classic. The Grape combined three guitars, bass, and
drums with crisp five part harmonies, and outstanding song writing talents.
They were hyped by CBS as America's answer to the Beatles. Unfortunately,
they read all their clippings, and the resulting squabbles over control
of the band's artistic direction, along with personal animosities lead to
a break-up of epic proportions. Over the years they got back together to
do five more albums, but none ever matched the power and dynamic energy
of the first. |
